Kevin Warren expected to be named next Big Ten Commissioner

This is certainly coming out of left field

UPDATE: Adam Schefter is now confirming that Kevin Warren is “expected” to be named the next B1G Commissioner tomorrow.

Original story follows.

Just a few moments ago, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network broke a story that, quite frankly, I’m not sure if anyone saw coming.

According to Rapoport, Kevin Warren, the Chief Operating Officer of the Minnesota Vikings, has emerged as a top finalist to be the next Commissioner of the Big Ten Conference. The conference will announce who the next Commissioner will be tomorrow. The job has been held since 1989 by Jim Delany, but he is leaving his post.

Warren is the highest-ranking African-American executive working on the business side of an NFL franchise. He became the first African-American COO in the National Football League when the Vikings elevated him to that post in 2015, and he worked as the team’s Executive Vice President of Legal Affairs and Chief Administrative Officer prior to that.

I’m not sure how many candidates there are for the position of Big Ten Commissioner, but this is the first time. . .just a day before the announcement. . .that anyone has brought up Warren as a potential candidate.

We’ll definitely be keeping an eye on this situation, as Warren has been a big part of the Vikings’ front office for a long time now, and losing him would be significant, to say the least.

Again, Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network is reporting that Vikings’ COO Kevin Warren has emerged as a “top finalist” to be the next Commissioner of the Big Ten Conference. We will learn on Tuesday whether or not he’s going to be leaving the Vikings or not.
