Vikings, tight end Kyle Rudolph agree to contract extension

The contract standoff between Kyle Rudolph and the Minnesota Vikings has come to an end. Rudolph published a note on Twitter Monday night indicating he would be remaining with the Vikings. ESPN Vikings reporter Courtney Cronin said the two sides agreed to an extension that would be signed on Tuesday morning. This outcome comes off as a surprise to many who were following the situation. Rudolph was owed $7.6 million for the upcoming season, but the Vikings wanted to sign him to a long-term deal that would lower his salary cap number for the season. The Vikings were looking to trade Rudolph, drafted tight end Irv Smith, and Rudolph said he wouldn’t take a pay cut. Something must have changed to lead to an agreement between the sides. The 29-year-old caught 64 passes on 82 targets for 634 yards and four touchdowns last season. He has played in all 16 games for four straight seasons.
