This year marks the 25th season for the Jacksonville Jaguars. To celebrate, we’re counting down 100 days from our regular season kickoff with the top 100 moments in franchise history.
Yesterday it was Jalen Ramsey yelling “YOU TRASH!” at the entire Buffalo Bills sideline.
Today? It’s not really a moment, per se, but an entire season of the most elite defense this franchise has ever known.
55 sacks. 21 interceptions. 17 forced fumbles. 7 touchdowns.
The Jacksonville Jaguars defense hit unprecedented levels of productivity in 2017. Oftentimes carrying the offense (and even outscoring them certain weeks) it was the defense that carried this team to the AFC Championship.
It’s hard to argue that the new franchise sack leader was the best player on the defensive side of the ball that year — he finished with 14.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, and a touchdown.
But lest we forget the other defensive end, Yannick Ngakoue, who had 13.0 sacks, seven forced fumbles (including one in the AFC Divisional Round that led to a pivotal Telvin Smith touchdown), and was all-around an incredibly dominant player in his own right.
And Jalen Ramsey and A.J. Bouye made up the best cornerback duo in the NFL that year. Both were named as All-Pros, both played in the Pro Bowl, and both shut down opposing wide receivers all season long, allowing just a couple of touchdowns through the air total from all of 2017.
Here is but a taste of what we got to see in 2017 — every single turnover the defense forced that season.
God, that 2017 Jaguars defense was something special. pic.twitter.com/FXkwp7OV2k
