Michael Crabtree, WR, to the Kansas City Chiefs. Crabtree’s numbers continued to stagnate in 2018, as the veteran finished with less than 60 catches and 620 yards for the second consecutive season. Is the 32-year-old in physical decline, or was his drop-off a byproduct of the offensive adjustments the Ravens made to accommodate Lamar Jackson after the dual-threat quarterback took over in Baltimore? Crabtree’s numbers in the games Jackson started (13 catches on 24 targets for 135 yards and one score) marked the worst seven-game stretch to close a season in his career, while his numbers under Jackson’s predecessor, Joe Flacco (41 catches on 76 targets for 472 yards and two touchdowns), were comparatively healthy. That said, he was released by the Raiders and Ravens in consecutive offseasons, and receivers do tend to fall off rapidly, especially those who never had burning speed to start with. It would be logical for the Chiefs to take a flier on Crabtree, especially with Tyreek Hill’s availability still up in the air.

The narrowest of margins separates the Chiefs from the top spot. On paper, though Damien Williams looked fine as Kareem Hunt’s replacement in December and January, it’s hard to believe that the former Dolphins backup and Carlos Hyde are an upgrade on Hunt and Spencer Ware, who were Kansas City’s two leading backs this time last season. Andy Reid should be able to draw up a bunch of receiving yardage for his backs on screens, but that’s more a function of Reid and Patrick Mahomesthan it is these backs.

Embroiled for most of the year in legal issues related to the care of his young son, who has been removed from the custody of Hill and the child’s mother, the NFL has explored the situation — and the only question left is whether and to what extent the NFL will discipline Hill.

Possible landing spot: Chiefs. Kansas City hasn’t done nearly enough to revamp its secondary this offseason, even after signing Tyrann Mathieu and Bashaud Breeland in free agency. The Chiefs currently have more than $25 million in cap space and would easily be able to fit Waynes’s expensive deal on their books. This is the type of move a team going all in with an MVP quarterback making $4.5 million on a rookie deal should make.

As a sophomore in 2018, Adebo erupted with 17 pass breakups and four interceptions. Listed at 6-foot-1 and 189 pounds, Adebo has immense length and knows how to use it to his advantage in press coverage and when the ball is arriving. He’s more of a smooth mover than he is twitchy and has good downfield speed.

According to offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy, the Kansas City Chiefs already view Damien Williams as their starting running back. Let’s be realistic, though. If a better option emerges during training camp, the team will place him in the starting role.

NFL suspends full-time officiating program | Pro Football Talk
Kevin Seifert of ESPN.com reports that the league has shelved full-time officiating as part of ongoing labor discussions with the NFL Referees Association. This means that NFL officials will revert to being part-time employees, which presumably stinks for those NFL officials who had become full-time employees (and in turn given up their other part-time gigs).

Kaplan’s report conflicts with other information that has surfaced in recent months.
