Dak Prescott throws two INTs during Tuesday’s practice as Cowboys defense is ahead of offense - Calvin Watkins, SportsDay Dallas
Reports from training camp thus far have generally spoken highly of the Cowboys offense, but that wasn’t the case on Tuesday. The defense came to play, especially in the secondary, picking off Dak Prescott twice.
A pair of safeties picked Prescott off as the defense has taken control of the first four practices in training camp. Prescott’s first pick came during a seven-on-seven drill when a tipped ball was snagged by strong safety Jeff Heath.
During 11-on-11 drills Prescott directed a pass toward receiver Randall Cobb that was intercepted by Xavier Woods who took it back for an apparent touchdown.
“You just want to create a competitive situation,” Garrett said of the INTs. “That’s really what we try to strive to do with our team, build our team to a point where it’s competitive and there isn’t an imbalance. So the way you get better is playing against a unit that’s going to challenge you every snap and that’s a part of the game. We have to do a better job taking the ball away on defense.”

One of the more influential coaching hires of the new year so far has been quarterbacks coach Jon Kitna, who has a history playing for the team himself. Head coach Jason Garrett spoke on Tuesday as to how excited the Cowboys were to have him on their staff.
“He is a special person,” Garrett told reporters Sunday at training camp in Oxnard, Calif. “He was a damn good player for us. He has a lot of those same things I was talking about. His command, his ability to connect with his team and have guys play for him. He played well for us when he was here.”
Kitna produced a 5-5 record for the Cowboys, all in 2010 when starter Tony Romo was lost for the season with a broken collarbone. The former Seattle Seahawk, Cincinnati Bengal, and Detroit Lion even had one last heroic stand in Week 2 of 2011 as Romo dealt with broken ribs and a collapsed lung before returning to lead Dallas over the San Francisco 49ers in overtime.
Said Garrett: “Everything we thought about him then we see every day. He’s got great knowledge of the game. He’s got a great way to connect with people. He is a really good teacher. The enthusiasm he has teaching in the meeting room, teaching on the field is fantastic — the way he interacts with players, the way he interacts with coaches.”

While Ezekiel Elliott continues to miss training camp as contract negotiations are ongoing, the star running back found himself in the news Tuesday for something completely unrelated to his current holdout.
In fact, Hill claims the Dallas Cowboys “conspired with the Frisco Police Dept. to cover up the severity of the accident to assure that Elliott’s health would not be placed in question before their playoff game.”
According to Hill’s suit, “If anyone had actually reported the impact of the accident and had Elliott been examined he would have most likely been placed in concussion protocol and out for the Dallas Cowboys upcoming playoff game.”
In his suit, filed by attorney Larry Friedman, Hill claims Dallas Cowboys running backs coach Gary Brown had raced to the scene of the accident and told Hill, “We will take care of everything.”
Hill claims the Cowboys did NOT take care of anything -- and he’s suing both Zeke and the Cowboys for $20 MILLION in damages.

Ezekiel Elliott is reportedly in Cabo training on his own so that he’s in good shape to arrive at training camp whenever that happens. While some may think that other Cowboys players could be miffed, that doesn’t seem to be the case.
“Not at all. I’m a little jealous that he’s in Cabo,” Frederick said Tuesday after the Cowboys’ fourth practice (second padded) of training camp. “You saw what happened last time he went to Cabo. He came back and he was really ready to go, in really great shape. I’ve been to where he goes in Cabo.
“He’s got a heck of a setup there, so I’m certainly not worried about him being in any bad shape when he comes back.”
“Obviously” they want to practice with Elliott as soon as they can, Frederick said. But “he’s got business to attend to” and knows Dallas’ system already. “I certainly understand the business aspect of it.”

Sean Lee has always been a top talent at linebacker but could never stay healthy. That trend continued into this year already, as Lee has an MCL sprain that’s keeping him out of camp for a little bit, although it doesn’t seem too serious.
Dallas Cowboys linebacker Sean Lee reportedly suffered a minor MCL sprain in his right knee during training camp.
Todd Archer of ESPN reported the news, noting head coach Jason Garrett said the linebacker will not need surgery.
Injuries have been a theme throughout Lee’s NFL career. The 2010 second-round draft pick has yet to play a full season since entering the league. In 2018 alone, he suffered a pair of hamstring injuries that collectively cost him a big chunk of the year.
