Eric Weddle: NFL Network’s #100 player in NFL

He may be long in the tooth at 34 years old, but still commands respect

When Lamarcus Joyner left the Los Angeles Rams for the Oakland Raiders this past offseason, it left a significant hole at safety for Wade Phillips’ defense. With no clear replacement on the roster when free agency opened, Les Snead wasn’t shy about shooting for an established veteran.

Enter Eric Weddle.

Weddle has made a name for himself as one of the most reliable safeties in the game since being drafted by the San Diego Chargers in 2007. During his career, Weddle has built a Hall of Fame resume highlighted by 6 Pro Bowls, 2 All-Pro selections, and 29 interceptions.

Weddle is undoubtedly on the downside of his career, but remains a highly respected player. The Rams will likely lean on Weddle to be a bridge between Joyner and 2019 second round pick Taylor Rapp.

The best part of this situation for the Rams is that they have an established veteran leader who can maintain a high level of play while passing some wisdom to Rapp and other young DBs on the team.
