Golden Nuggets: Jimmy G looks ready to go for training camp

Wednesday, July 10th, 2019 edition of the Golden Nuggets, a daily compilation of San Francisco 49ers links from the Internet

The return of Jimmy Garoppolo is the single most important storyline for the 49ers heading into training camp. After he went down in Week 3 last season, the 49ers’ hopes of a playoff push was over. The 49ers need to see Jimmy play a full season with Kyle Shanahan to know that they have the right guy to be their franchise quarterback. The hope after he underwent surgery in October was to have him ready to go for the start of the 2019 season.

With training camp weeks away, Jimmy looks ready to go for a full camp. He was able to do a little work in OTAs, but only took one snap in full team drills. He has been able to throw to receivers recently, but getting those reps in training camp will be very important for him and the team to build a rhythm. A good training camp for Jimmy will go a long way to give him confidence that he is fully healed from his injury and ready for the regular season.

In year 2 of his extension, the team wants to see their franchise quarterback get them back in the mix for the playoffs. With more added pieces on defense and additional weapons at receiver, there should be no reason that the 49ers are not in the playoff hunt. The health of Jimmy would be the only thing that could derail it. Now that rehab has him on track to be a full participant at training camp, the 49ers should be ready to make a big leap in Kyle Shanahan’s 3rd year as head coach.
