San Francisco 49ers links for Friday July 12 2019
If you are wondering why some of the links are over a day old, it is because I didn’t see any Golden Nuggets yesterday so I wanted to include a few links that would have been in yesterday’s Golden Nuggets.
I thought the Gore vs Fitzgerald link was fitting to be on top. What a couple of amazing careers that completely deserve the added attention! I am not sure I even want to get in the middle of any argument over which one’s career was more impressive though.
While I highly doubt either one of them will ever be a Deforest Buckner, Dee Ford or even a Nick Bosa, I think Arik Armstead and Solomon Thomas are arguably anything but average. Solomon Thomas has one of the quickest moves off the line I have ever seen even if I have not had the pleasure of seeing it very often. Arik Armstead, on the other hand, can bull rush with the strength seldom seen in the NFL. If he sets his mind to run over you, he probably will. The problem isn’t with their talent, it is with their consistency.
This is where the coaching staff comes in. If there is one coach in the NFL that I feel can get his players to play like their pants are on fire, to play with the utmost urgency on every down while honing their technique, it is Kris Kocurek. I am bringing back this video for anyone that questions Kocurek’s dedication to getting the most out of his players.

Solomon’s snap count on the inside took a huge jump starting in week 13 of last season and I have included a link from Jonnydel’s Football Academy where he goes over Thomas’ performances after he started playing more inside just so people can get some idea of what to expect.
49ers playbook: Solomon Thomas pass rush breakdown
Thomas’ speed and technique is pointed out several times during that video. I am also including a highlight tape from his college years showing off just how big, strong and fast he really is. The man is a freak of nature.
Solomon Thomas: Freak of nature
Speaking of big and strong and fast, we can’t forget this article on Arik Armstead that goes into depth on just how valuable Arik Armstead was last season.
…and just for fun I included a quicky of Arik Armstead turning Carson Palmer into a ragdoll.
Carson Palmer: It’s like getting hit by a mack truck
...and another quicky of how it is probably a good idea to block Armstead
I find it amazing that we were able to pick up two high caliber players like Ford and Bosa to go along with Buckner and still hang onto quality players like Thomas and Armstead. With the addition of our new defensive line coach, I think the sky is the limit for this group of defensive linemen.
