Jets’ starting tight end will miss Week 4 Eagles game

Tough news for New York.

The New York Jets will be without starting tight end Chris Herndon when they play the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 4 this season. The NFL suspended Herndon for the first four games of 2019 due to a 2018 DUI arrest.

Losing Herndon is far from ideal for the Jets. As a rookie last year, Herndon finished second on New York in receptions (39), receiving yards (502), and receiving touchdowns (4). He formed a good connection with Jets quarterback Sam Darnold.

Now the 22-year-old Darnold will be without his security blanket in Philly. And it’s not like the Jets can really count on Herndon’s backups to adequately replace him. Take a look at the remaining tight ends on their roster:

  • Daniel Brown - 7.5 receiving yards per game in 42 games played
  • Eric Tomlinson - 5.4 receiving yards per game in 36 appearances
  • Trevon Wesco - 28 total college receptions over three, fourth-round rookie

So, yeah ... not great!

The Eagles should be able to beat the Jets even if Herndon was able to play. The fact that he isn’t just gives Philly another advantage.
