Today was about as refreshing of a day then I can remember due to...well...
Football is back, baby!
The first day of training is always incredibly exciting. Fans have that type of anticipation that makes them go nuts over the least relevant things.
“Holy cow, our sixth wide receiver just snagged 33-yard pass from our third-string quarterback on the 59th play of the day? Oh he’s about to SNAP!”
I live for that type of stuff this early in camp. When the smallest actions can mean so much to fans, it makes this next month just fly by.
With that being said, here is a compilation of tweets/notes from the first day of training camp to get you all caught up on some of the events from today’s first practice.
1st team (base) D in drills:

The first team defense was as expected today. Not much here of note other than seeing Michael Davis as the cornerback opposite Casey Hayward. Anthony Lynn noted last month that Trevor Williams looks like his 2017 self and I fully expected to see Williams start TC as CB2. However, that battle has a long way to go before week 1.
Same OL as last season with Trent Scott taking for Okung. Ekeler the starting RB just caught a ball over middle. Justin Jackson just followed it with a big gainer on the ground

As we all feared, we will be subjected to watching Sam Tevi and Trent Scott as the team’s starting offensive tackles during the preseason while Russell Okung tends to his recent health scare. It’s nice to see that Austin Ekeler and Justin Jackson both enjoyed solid outings on the day.

After starting three games prior to his season-ending injury, Kyzir White should be in the running to earn a starting job, or at least some decent playing time, in training camp should Jatavis Brown or Uchenna Nwosu underwhelm. He had a good day, working with both the first and second team defenses.
Thomas Davis got in the middle of a pass to Keenan Allen for an incompletion. Also Michael Davis stride for stride with Mike Williams for the 2nd straight incompletion the very next play

It’s always encouraging to hear the new guys making an impression from the get-go. Davis still has some some juice left in him and the defense is going to count on that. Davis competing against Williams and Allen for another training camp should keep in tip-top shape.
Easton Stick hit Jason Moore on a beautiful connection down the sideline. Stick hits Moore over the middle on next play

Although there aren’t any expectations for Easton Stick in his first professional season,it’s still fun to see him making plays and being aggressive with the ball. While he has nothing to lose, knowing that the team won’t get rid of him based on his draft position, this is the time to experiment and shoot for the moon while he can.

Man, it feels spectacular to hear Henry’s name attached to a big play on the day. Remember, he wasn’t here for this stuff last year, so it’s been well over a year since we got this type of content about the tight end. I’ll take another shot of that good stuff, please.
Team is mixing Trey Pipkins at both the 2nd team LT & RT

Trey Pipkins is another guy that doesn’t have a ton of expectations other than the fact the team spent their 2019 third-round pick on him. With Okung out, he is going to get increased reps which, hopefully, is a blessing in disguise for his develoment.

Oh yes, here is the content I was waiting for all day. Lamp spent most of the first practice with the second-team offense at left guard. He did mix in with the first team at left guard while Dan Feeney got some reps at center. After practice, Lynn mentioned that, prior to the Mike Pouncey signing in 2018, Feeney was set to be the team’s starting center. That means, if Pouncey was never signed, we could be looking at Forrest Lamp already the team’s starting left guard...
But, alas.
Anyways, I’ll be stuck to my laptop all day tomorrow, covering the second day of training camp so check back for all the goods!
