There isn’t currently a number 63 on the Panthers roster, so let’s look back at one of the best to ever wear that number for this team
There are only 63 days until the Carolina Panthers kick off the 2019 season, so let’s take a closer look at the best player to wear the number 63 for the Panthers — guard Geoff Hangartner.
Geoff Hangartner, Guard
Bio
Height: 6’5”
Weight: 305 lbs
Age: 37 years
College: Texas A&M
Experience: 9 years
Hangartner was one of the best fifth round picks in the history of the Panthers franchise. That’s easily said given his career lasted for 9 seasons and 113 games —including 84 starts— for only two teams. Hangartner, affectionately known to his teammates as ‘Piggy,’ played for the Panthers from 2005-2008, the Buffalo Bills from 2009-2010, and then again with the Panthers from 2011-2013.
His second run with the Panthers was the most memorable stretch of his career. Hangartner returned to protect Cam Newton as a rookie and represented, at the time, one of the more significant investments the team would make in their young quarterback’s future. Hangartner proved to be both an excellent guard and a reliable stop gap at center whenever Ryan Kalil was injured.
