More of the latest Browns news and notes from around the web in today’s dose of the Sunday Dawg Chow.
- Projecting a Damarious Randall extension (Browns Wire) - What will any rumored Damarious Randall contract extension with the Cleveland Browns look like? There are indications, including one from Pro Football Talk, that the Browns and the starting free safety are inching towards a new contract agreement. Based on some other recent contracts around the league, Randall could be in line for a substantial new deal.
- Browns single-game tickets go on sale Monday (Fox 8) - Single game tickets for the Cleveland Browns’ 2019-2020 season go on sale Monday, July 15. According to the Browns, single game ticket inventory is extremely limited.
- David Njoku a player to watch in Cleveland (cincinnati.com) - David Njoku could be poised to make another leap this season. The Browns tight end had a career high 56 catches last year, which was second on the team and eighth in the NFL at the position. He’s steadily improved since the Browns drafted him 29th overall in the 2017 NFL Draft.
- Willie Wright adjusting to move to center (Tulsa World) - During a break in training camp, offensive lineman Willie Wright was back on the University of Tulsa campus this week, studying the Cleveland Browns playbook. As if the transition to the NFL from college isn’t difficult enough, Wright has changed positions. After starting four years at right tackle for the Hurricane, he is working at center for the Browns as an undrafted free agent.
NFL:
- Jaguars running back Leonard Fournette in pivotal season to produce (jacksonville.com) - Instead of building off a successful rookie season, Leonard Fournette significantly regressed last season. He was unproductive, injury prone and had maturity issues to surface. If he doesn’t figure it out this season, it could be his last in Jacksonville.
- Redskins’ Nick Sundberg affecting lives with laundry program (ESPN) - With his mom and sister standing next to him inside the Fredericksburg, Virginia, homeless shelter, Keyshawn Pendleton did what sixth-graders do: boast about his sports accomplishments. He bragged about his handles in basketball and the time he refused to be tackled during football practice. But there was another topic that mattered more: clean clothes. He stood inside a burgundy-and-gold laundry room in March at the Brisben Center with three new washers and three new dryers. It mattered to him.
- Four veteran newcomers who could make a difference with the Patriots (boston.com) - Football is typically a young man’s game, and Bill Belichick has traditionally erred on the side of separating from a player a season early rather than a season late. He’s not wholly opposed to older players, but more often than not it hasn’t worked out when his Patriots have taken a shot on a player in the late stages of his career. Among them are a couple of retreads who’ve called Gillette Stadium home in the past, a couple of former Pro Bowlers who carry big names, and a grinder who has the traits that makes him an intriguing possibility at a potentially thin position.
