The Titans and Kevin Byard have agreed to a contract extension that makes him the highest paid safety in NFL history. The deal is for 5 years and $70.5 million with $31 million guaranteed according to Adam Schefter. We knew this was coming at some point before the season started. I am not surprised that it happened today after the news earlier that Taylor Lewan will most likely miss 4 games. The Titans needed some good news coming out of St. Thomas Sports Park.
Byard has been one of Jon Robinson’s best picks to date. Some people said Robinson reached for Byard when he took him in the 3rd round of the 2016 draft. Those people are dumb.
The next time people try to tell you the Titans are cheap and don’t pay anyone, remind them that for the second time in as many years they have made a player on their team the highest paid player in the history of his position.
