Veteran wide receiver Tweets a “thank you” to Cleveland, but team has not officially announced a move.

The Cleveland Browns do not have to make their final NFL-mandated roster cutdown to 53 players until August 31 at 4 p.m.

But the Browns may have decided to get busy early as the club appears to have released veteran wide receiver Jaelen Strong.

While the Browns have not released anything official, Strong posted a message to his Twitter account and it certainly appears as if his time in Cleveland has come to a conclusion:

Strong was originally a third-round selection by the Houston Texans in the 2015 NFL Draft. He appeared in 20 games with the Texans and posted 31 passes for 330 yards and four touchdowns.

Strong’s tenure with the Texans was less than stellar, as Sean Pendergast pointed out at houstonpress.com at the time of Strong’s release:

Strong has never been able to get out of second gear as a Texan, as he showed up at training camp as a rookie overweight, weighing around 230 pounds. When he finally got on the field in his rookie season, he made an impact, catching two touchdowns against the Colts on a Thursday night, and then scoring the game-winning touchdown in the rematch with the Colts that season, the first Texans win in Indy in team history. But those types of moments were sparse, and he finished his Texans career with just 28 receptions for 292 yards in 19 games. The three touchdowns he scored against the Colts in 2015 are the only three scores of his career. Aside from the statistical disappointment is the stark reality that Strong was just cut from a wide receiving corps that consists of the frequently targeted DeAndre Hopkins, the injured Will Fuller, the ineffective Braxton Miller, the concussed Bruce Ellington and the now re-signed Andy Jones. Woof.

The Texans waived the 6-foot-2 and 220-pound Strong after he appeared in one game in 2017. He was suspended for the team’s Week 1 game that season after an off-season arrest for illegal possession of marijuana.

After being released by the Texans, Strong landed with the Jacksonville Jaguars and spent time on Jacksonville’s practice squad and appearing in one game, where he had three receptions for 38 yards and a touchdown.

The Jaguars released him in April of last year while Strong was recovering from a torn anterior cruciate ligament and Strong did not catch on with a team for the 2018 season.

Strong signed with the Browns in February and had seven receptions for 52 yards and a touchdown in three preseason game.
