Breaking: Patriots center David Andrews hospitalized

NFL: New England Patriots-Minicamp Greg M. Cooper-USA TODAY Sports

David Andrews is dealing with a very serious medical issue.

According to The Athletic’s Jeff Howe, Patriots center David Andrews has been hospitalized with a blood clot in his lung, and his 2019 season could be in jeopardy. Howe also added that, at a minimum, the team captain is expected to miss a significant amount of time.

This, of course, thrusts the starting center job onto the shoulders of fourth-year interior offensive lineman Ted Karras.

Karras — the 221st pick in the sixth round of the 2016 draft — has served as the primary reserve interior lineman for the Patriots for the past three seasons, making five starts in the process.

The former Fighting Illini standout is due for unrestricted free agency after this season, so the opportunity couldn’t come at a better time for an unsung member of the Patriots offense who has become a locker room favorite among his teammates and the Patriots coaching staff.

We’ll bring you more news on David Andrews as it becomes available.
