Training camp becomes the preseason, and real football is oh, so close
Happy Monday, everyone!
Well, training camp is shifting gears, preseason games are beginning soon, and we will soon have some real Vikings football action to watch, and later, to debate. Preseason games are fun to watch, and I particularly enjoy watching the battles for backup roles. This is where skills on special teams help some guys make the final 53, and some of these guys will find themselves thrust into starting roles during the season.
I don’t put a whole lot of stock on the W and L columns during the preseason, but I will be watching a few position groups, and will use their level of improvement as a barometer of the team’s success so far this preseason. If I see significant improvement in our O-line play, I will be very pleased. I am also curious to see which cornerbacks take the next step, and also to see who locks down the third linebacker position. Like many, I am also hoping to see a big step forward taken by Kirk Cousins, but no need to beat that dead horse any longer. This is his year to do it, I hope he shines.
Around the DN since our last open thread:
GreatOdinsRaven posted Climbing the Pocket:Episode 162 [Training Camp Recap with Eric Thompson].
The Vikings signed cornerback Bene Benwikere (don’t ask me how to pronounce that).
The Vikings removed Shamar Stephen from the non-football injury list.
Eric recapped the night practice from Vikings training camp.
Chris has the broadcast schedule for all the Vikings’ preseason games.
Wludford has his updated Vikings roster projection.
Other Vikings and NFL news, other sports news, and random oddities and annoyances:
At NFL.com, they look at five new assistants who are under pressure in 2019. You’ll see a member of the Vikings staff at the top of this list.
From Yahoo Sports, the Patriots and Tom Brady are close to agreement to terms on a contract extension.
Isn’t it weird that the best way to get water out of your ear is to flush your ear with water? You’re in the shower, and you have water in your ears that won’t come out, so in order to remove the water, you lean your head over and flood your ear with water, and then it’s magically gone! It seems counter-intuitive to me.
We come to today’s media selection:
I stumbled across this awesome little clip featuring Bruce Lee. Enjoy!
Again, we all know the rules, but in case someone is new:
- No discussion of politics or religion
- No feeding of the trolls
- Leave the gender hatred at the door
- Keep the bad language to a minimum (using the spoiler tags, if you must)
- Speaking of which, if discussing a newer show or movie, please use spoiler tags\
- No pictures that could get someone fired or in serious trouble with their employer
- If you can’t disagree in a civil manner, feel free to go away
- While navigating the open thread, just assume it’s sarcasm.
With that, the beer light is on and the bar is open. Belly up & tie one on, don’t tip the cows, and please help the idiot goat get his head unstuck from the fence.
