Colts fill out practice squad with three final additions

NFL: Preseason-Los Angeles Rams at Houston Texans Troy Taormina-USA TODAY Sports

Indy adds a wide receiver and two defensive linemen

A day after signing its first six players to the practice squad, the Indianapolis Colts have officially announced the three final signings to fill out the roster.

Joining the initial six that were introduced by Zach Hicks yesterday are defensive end Jamal Davis, defensive tackle Brian Price and wide receiver Chad Williams. The practice squad is always subject to change, however let’s get to know some more about final trio.

Jamal Davis, DE

The division-rival Houston Texans, who made countless transactions over the weekend, waived Davis as they trimmed their roster to the final 53.

The undrafted free agent spent two seasons with the Akron Zips after playing in three games with the Pittsburgh Panthers in 2015. Switching from linebacker to defensive end after changing schools, Davis racked up 149 tackles, 31.5 tackles for loss and 7.5 sacks in his final two seasons. He totaled seven tackles in three preseason games this summer.

Brian Price, DT

Like Davis, Price was released from the Browns over the weekend as Cleveland shaped up their final roster. An undrafted free agent in 2016 from UTSA, Price signed with the Green Bay Packers and appeared in once game the next season before jumping to Dallas, Oakland and Cleveland the following two years. In 22 career appearances and one start with the Raiders last season, the 322-pounder has 20 tackles, a tackle for loss and a pass deflection to his name.

A concussion and hamstring injury limited his action in Cleveland this offseason, a year after appearing in 12 games for the Browns. At just 25 years old, Price is a young option for depth in the middle of the defense in case of injury.

Chad Williams, WR

A former third-round pick from 2017 makes his way to Indianapolis after being cut by the Arizona Cardinals on Friday.

Williams started seven games for the lowly Cardinals last season, hauling in 17 receptions for 171 yards and one touchdown. An underwhelming 37.0 catch percentage hints at questionable hands, but he had flashes of potential that kept him on the Cardinals roster for two seasons.

With a new offense and three receivers drafted in 2019, there was no room to keep Williams on the roster. Now he’ll remain an option on the Colts’ practice squad, should injuries affect their deep receiver core.
