An eye on draft prospects.
Week one went by like a breeze. Dozens of exciting games over the last few days featured some huge moments and extremely fun performances by some great players. Standout draft prospects on both sides of the ball made great impressions, but Jonatahn Taylor and Paulson Adebo had some of the more notable, dominating games.
We all know who Jonathan Taylor is by now. The junior is the first back in college football history to run for over 1,900 yards in two straight seasons before they were draft eligible. Taylor has been the engine in Wisconsin’s offense and his Friday performance against USF was a microcosm of his dominance, with some added flair. Taylor carried the ball a paltry 16 times, but went over 130 yards on the ground while scoring two touchdowns.

Taylor running roughshod over USF is not exactly a surprise. This team is far from being the ‘84 bears, but it was impressive how efficiently Taylor was able to dismantle their defense on every carry. More notably than Taylor’s almost routine rushing production was his added threat as a pass catcher. Taylor had 16 career catches in the previous two seasons, averaging around 10 yards per catch on that small sample size. Against USF, he caught two passes for 48 yards and scored his first two career receiving touchdowns.

Taylor’s first TD came on a screen pass, but this pay where he ran a short route, caught a tough pass and ran over two defenders to the endzone is really impressive. Taylor, for all his greatness, had question marks coming into this season for his viability as a pass catcher. If Friday was any indication, he should be okay!
Paulson Adebo came into the season with a lot of hype. Last year he picked off four passes, knocked down 17 more and forced a fumble. Adebo was named a Preseason All-American and week one shows that Adebo is only getting better. Adebo and the Stanford Cardinal had a rough and tumble, defensive bout with Northwestern and Adebo was crucial in helping Stanford eek out a win. Adebo had a pick, two pass knockdowns and according to Pro Football Focus, only allowed a single reception.

Adebo is so smooth in coverage here and it’s a great example of what makes him such a good player. He is technically sound and extremely disciplined. The 6’1”, 190 pound junior had a great start to the season and games like this will secure his top cornerback spot in this year’s class.
