He was waived last week
After a couple of promotions last week, the Minnesota Vikings had an open spot on the practice squad, and they brought back one of the players that they let go of during the week.
On Monday, the Vikings signed cornerback Mark Fields to the practice squad, bringing them back to ten players.
Fields was acquired by the Vikings on cutdown day this preseason, as they sent a conditional seventh-round pick in 2021 to the Kansas City Chiefs for his services. He was on the roster for Week 1, and played a few snaps at the end of the Vikings’ victory over the Atlanta Falcons, but was waived when the Vikings brought linebacker Devante Downs up to the active roster.
The conditional pick that the Vikings sent to the Chiefs was based on playing time, though nobody has ever really clarified what that threshold is. I would guess, however, that it only applies to how much time Fields spends on the 53-man roster as opposed to the practice squad.
With Fields’ return, the Vikings’ practice squad now looks like this:
- FB Khari Blasingame
- QB Jake Browning
- OL Aviante Collins
- WR Davion Davis
- TE Brandon Dillon
- CB Mark Fields
- WR Alexander Hollins
- DE Stacy Keely
- WR Dillon Mitchell
- LB Cameron Smith
