The team has signed former Mississippi State defensive lineman Braxton Hoyett after a stint with the Titans

On Tuesday, the Kansas City Chiefs filled the practice squad spot left vacant when cornerback Torry McTyer was signed by the Cincinnati Bengals last week.

According to the NFL’s official transactions report, the Chiefs have signed defensive tackle Braxton Hoyett to their practice squad.

Listed at 6-feet-2 and 302 pounds, Hoyett, 23, was signed by the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent out of Mississippi State in the spring. A native of Pelham, Alabama, Hoyett was released by the Titans at the end of training camp.

Redshirted by the Bulldogs, Hoyett played four years at Mississippi State, becoming a starter in his redhshirt junior season. He accumulated 62 tackles (including 7.5 tackles for loss) and 1.5 sacks in 44 games, which included 22 starts.

Hoyetts’s signing closes one of the potential avenues the Chiefs could have used to create a roster spot for Morris Claiborne, whose suspension was lifted after Week 4 of the NFL season. Since the Chiefs did not immediately move to replace McTyer, one of their potential options was to release a player from the active roster and place them in McTyer’s practice squad spot if they cleared waivers. With Hoyett’s signing, the Chiefs won’t have that luxury unless they release another practice squad player.
