The Falcons must thing both Matt Ryan and Desmond Trufant are ready to return.
The Falcons have a long bye week, so they are definitely going to be slow considering everything surrounding Arthur Blank, Dan Quinn, and Tuesday’s trade deadline.
Just kidding, they are already making cuts. Former Patriots quarterback Danny Etling and former Eagles cornerback are no longer Falcons. Their replacements have yet to be named.
There’s only so much we can say about both Etling and White without getting too emotional. I’ll let Elton John take it from here in his classic Candle in the Wind.
And it seems to me you lived your life
Like a candle in the wind
Never knowing who to cling to
When the rain set in
And I would have liked to have known you
But I was just a kid
Your candle burned out long before
Your legend ever did
We will miss both Etling and White, who are saving me a little time by both being active once but not otherwise playing on offense or defense.
White played 10 snaps on special teams against the Arizona Cardinals when both Desmond Trufant and Blidi Wreh-Wilson were out with injuries. He has stuck around the NFL for a few years, suggesting he may have some talent and will be a prime practice squad candidate.
Etling, the former Patriots quarterback cut from New England after the Falcons traded them Eric Saubert. In a way, the Falcons caused Etling to be cut twice. Now they will likely try to bring him back on the practice squad.
The good news for Falcons fans? The moves suggest the Falcons believe both Matt Ryan and Desmond Trufant will return after the bye week. The Falcons should return two starters and likely do not plan to trade Trufant.
