Fantasy Football Preview: Week 7

Evan Birchfield is here to prepare you for your fantasy matchups!

Greetings, Falcoholics! Well, our Atlanta Falcons have lost again. They’re now 1-5 and what little optimism that may have remained is likely gone. It’s times like these that turning to fantasy football to distract you is important. Let’s review last week.

As mentioned above, the Falcons lost to the Arizona Cardinals. Naturally, Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray had the best game of his young career, and that goes for fantasy football as well. Murray finished the day with 38.20 fantasy points, due to his career-best three passing touchdowns.

A bright note for the Falcons is Austin Hooper who continues to impress, even in an awful season. Hooper currently has the most fantasy points among tight ends, and still has some favorable matchups ahead. My “lock” in last week’s article happened to be Hooper, as the Cardinals have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. Hooper finished with his best fantasy total on the season.

This week the Falcons are playing the Los Angeles Rams in what has the potential of being an offensive shootout. On the Falcons side of things, Calvin Ridley should have a solid day as Julio Jones will likely be covered by newcomer Jalen Ramsey, who was traded to the Rams earlier in the week. Ridley has scored in each of the last two games, and will likely make it three straight against the Rams.

On the other side of the ball, it pains me to say it, but start every Rams player you have. Of course the obvious players such as Todd Gurley and Cooper Kupp should get theirs, but a sneaky play at tight end is Gerald Everett. As I’ve mentioned in previous articles, the tight end position is very thin this season, so you may have someone injured, on a bye or just be desperate at the position. Everett is available in a little more than half of fantasy football leagues and has had at least five targets in each of the last three games.

If you’re still not convinced, note that the Falcons defense has allowed three receiving touchdowns to tight ends since Week 5, which is the most in the league. It’s too early to know, but if Todd Gurley sits, you’ll obviously want to snag Malcolm Brown if he’s still available in your league.

Some guys currently available in 50% (or fewer) leagues are QB Kirk Cousins, RB Darrell Henderson Jr., WR Taylor Gabriel and WR Duke Williams.

Well that does it, folks. I wish everyone who took the time to read this the best of luck in their Week 7 fantasy matchups.
