Giants' Janoris Jenkins, center of trade rumors, says he just wants to play

Janoris Jenkins, the New York Giants’ veteran cornerback, has always been a laid back guy. He takes things with a grain of salt. Don’t misunderstand, he’s a competitive spirit but when it comes to things beyond his control, he understands fully the gravity of the situation.

This week, with the NFL trade deadline just days away, Jenkins’ name has been at the center of trade rumors. His contract ($14.75 million cap hit this year and next) and the Giants’ 2-5 record make him the most likely trade target on the team’s roster.

That doesn’t seem to faze Jenkins at all. He’ll go where he’s wanted. All he wants to do is play the game.

Jenkins was also a hot commodity last year at this time, when the Giants traded cornerback Eli Apple and defensive lineman Damon “Snacks” Harrison. The Giants apparently pulled him back off the market when teams didn’t meet their asking price.

Jackrabbit, as he is known, did not state that he wanted to stay here in New York while speaking with reporters on Friday, but he seems okay with staying as well. As mentioned, he’ll go wherever he’s wanted.

“Business is business, baby,” he said. “It doesn’t matter where I want to be. If they let me go, they do. I just want to play football, man. I can’t control business decisions. If you’re going to let me go, let me go. Don’t beat around the bush.”

The Giants won’t. Especially if team comes in with an offer they can’t refuse. With the roster flooded with young corners and the team clearly in rebuilding mode, it’s almost even money that Jenkins either has played or will be playing, his final game in Blue.
