More of the latest Browns news and notes from around the web in today’s dose of the Sunday Dawg Chow.
- Baker Mayfield fined for comments about officiating (Fox 8) - Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield was fined $12,500 for his comments about officiating. Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network shared the news on Twitter Saturday saying the decision came on the heels of last Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks.
- What is behind John Dorsey’s support of Freddie Kitchens and Baker Mayfield? (Terry Pluto) - Some fans were surprised about how strongly John Dorsey supported his coach and quarterback after the team’s 2-4 start to the season. I’m not. The Cleveland Browns GM is tied to Freddie Kitchens and Baker Mayfield.
- John Dorsey has called about Trent Williams for a month (ohio.com) - John Dorsey must really want to tango. The general manager of the Browns has called Washington every week for the last month and a half to inquire about trading for seven-time Pro Bowl left tackle Trent Williams, and every time Washington has told him it’s not dealing Williams, NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reported Saturday on “Good Morning Football.”
- Browns thankful for quality depth in the secondary (clevelandbrowns.com) - As media members and the general fanbase spent the offseason getting to know new defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, one desire of his continued to rise to the surface: individual versatility. After six games, it seems as though his wants and those of general manager John Dorsey have been in line since Wilks’ arrival.

- Matt Moore journeys from high school coach to Chiefs quarterback (NFL.com) - As August burned away in the Southern California summer, Matt Moore was readying for the impending football season -- the high school season. A decade in the NFL seemingly in the rear-view, the favorite son had returned home to his alma mater to become an assistant coach.
- A.J. Green has ‘a little ways to go’ in return from injury (Dayton Daily News) - A.J. Green says he hasn’t suffered any setbacks, but the Cincinnati Bengals star receiver might not be progressing either.
- Urban Meyer would “absolutely” take the Cowboys job (PFT) - Many coaches would never comment publicly about a job that is currently filled by someone else. Urban Meyer is not one of those coaches. Appearing Friday on Colin Cowherd’s radio show, Meyer made it clear that he’s interested in the Cowboys job.
- A middle finger and hard feelings: Earl Thomas returns to Seattle (ESPN) - A wall inside the Seattle Seahawks’ headquarters features the greatest players and moments from the Pete Carroll era. One of those photos shows safety Earl Thomas delivering a right-handed chop that knocked the ball free from St. Louis Rams running back Benny Cunningham as he was about to score a touchdown. Plays like that are why Carroll and others with the Seahawks consider the end of Thomas’ tenure with the team -- as ugly as it was -- to be an unfortunate footnote to his nine seasons in Seattle.
