Thursday Night Football, Week 9. Tonight the undefeated San Francisco 49ers travel to the Arizona desert to take on the Arizona Cardinals.
This NFC West showdown looks like a mismatch on paper. The 7-0 49ers are one of only two undefeated teams left in the NFL. The 49ers have one of the top two defenses in the NFL. They also have an offense that ranks second in the NFL in rushing yards, third in points scored, and sixth in total yards. This is a balanced, formidable 49ers team.
The 49ers face a Cardinals team that is still finding its footing under a rookie head coach and a rookie quarterback. Kyler Murray has been about as good as the Cardinals could have hoped for from a rookie quarterback, but he is still a rookie and suffers from the usual problems rookie quarterbacks typically face in terms of inconsistency. The 3-4-1 Cardinals come into this game having beaten only the worst of NFL opponents in the Giants, Falcons and Bengals. The Cardinals have the NFL’s 29th ranked defense and 22nd ranked offense. Only a trio of cupcake opponents and an offense that surprisingly has generated the fewest turnovers in the NFL is keeping this Cardinals team respectable. It would be a big upset if the Cardinals were to prove to be the 49ers biggest nightmare on Halloween night.
It’s the 49ers and the Cardinals in a matchup of the first place team and the last place team in the NFC West division on Thursday Night Football. Enjoy the game everybody.
