While the defense searches for answers, the offense’s best player needs to continue his impressive streak
There ten wide receivers in the NFL with 50 or more catches right now, and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers have two in Mike Evans (50) and Chris Godwin (54).
While this an impressive number for all of them, it’s a little more impressive for Evans when you consider he had zero catches against the New Orleans Saints and has a total of 48 receptions in a six game grouping of opportunities.
The Buccaneers offense is at it’s best when Evans is getting involved, and he’s been plenty involved since the bye week bringing in 23 receptions for 278-yards and three scores in the past two weeks.
However, the Bucs have been handed losses in each of those games after losing by four to the Tennessee Titans and by six in overtime against the Seattle Seahawks.
Of course, there have been factors outside of Evans leading to those losses, which makes his personal achievements even more crucial as the team around him looks to get on solid footing and seeks out consistent performance.
While the team sits at 2-6 near the bottom of the NFC South, Evans is on his way to another Pro Bowl appearance having an All-Pro season. Buccaneers staff writer Carmen Vitali pointed out one more personal achievement Evans can grab this weekend in her weekly ‘Notable Numbers’ column on Buccaneers.com.

Buccaneers fans love Mike Evans for a multitude of reasons. One of which is his lack of diva-like behavior. While Evans isn’t suffering from a lack of confidence, he doesn’t seek out the spotlight in ways some of his positional peers do.
When Evans became the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ franchise leader in catches, he didn’t want the game ball. Because the team lost. They lose, he loses. It’s that simple. And this team has been doing way too much of it when Evans is putting up record setting numbers.
While he isn’t a selfish person, the team needs him to continue playing will selfish types of numbers. Double digit receptions, triple-digit yards and multiple touchdowns will all help his team stay in the fight while the rest learn how to win.
If he can continue to do so this weekend against the Arizona Cardinals, he’ll not only set records and entrench himself even more as one of the best to do it for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, he’ll give his teammates yet another chance to catch up in their quest to become winners.
