Aerial Attack: B-
It wasn’t pretty, but Derek Carr got it done when it mattered most. Carr engineered the 18th game-winning drive of his career, leading the offense on a 10-play, 75-yard scoring drive, completing five of seven passes for 53 yards.
Early in the game, Carr missed a couple of throws and looked jittery in the pocket. He completed passes to eight different receivers for a 10.4 yards per completion average.
For the second week, Jalen Richard and Hunter Renfrow were Carr’s top target each catching four passes each.
Ground Game: C
Much like the passing attack, the run game was quiet for most of the night until the go-ahead drive. Josh Jacobs was held in check until he finally broke loose for his longest run of the night, an 18-yard touchdown scamper.
The Chargers made a concerted effort to stop the Raiders run and for the most part succeeded, as the Raiders gained only 78 yards on 21 attempts.
Offensive Line: C-
Finally back at full strength, the big uglies up front had some struggles both in run and pass blocking. Gabe Jackson, in particular, had a tough night. Melvin Ingram, one of the games best pass rushers, gave the Raiders line trouble with 2 sacks.
The good news is, all five starters came out of the game with no injuries of note.
Defensive Line: A-
I know the defense was gashed for 146 yards on the ground, but the pass rush was phenomenal, so that was weighted more heavily in this case.
Clelin Ferrell had a breakout game with 8 tackles and 2.5 sacks. Maxx Crosby (.5), Maurice Hurst (.5), and Benson Mayowa (1.5 sacks) got in on the fun as well. Crosby finished the night with 10 quarterback pressures.
Linebackers: B
It was a good effort from the linebackers considering Austin Ekeler was held to 2 catches for 29 yards. He did score a touchdown, but other than that was not a big factor.
Tahir Whitehead and Nicholas Morrow combined for 23 tackles.
Secondary: A
Three interceptions and one of them returned for an interception. Yup, that will earn you an A. Erik Harris had himself a night with two first quarter interceptions, one being the aforementioned pick-six. And he should have had a couple more.
Bad news is, Karl Joseph was placed on season-ending IR after suffering an injury in the game and Lamarcus Joyner left with an apparent hamstring injury.
Special Teams: C-
Daniel Carlson nearly cost the team the win with a missed field goal and extra point. The missed extra point came after Jacobs’ go-ahead touchdown and almost proved costly.
Carlson did convert two of his other field goal attempts.
Overall: B-
