Dallas Cowboys fans actually lost confidence in the team after Monday night’s win in New York

Cowboys fans have high standards.

Obviously Monday night was a little bit stressful for Cowboys fans everywhere. When you’re losing on the road to a division rival, that kind of thing can stick with you. Even if you end up winning.

Such was the case for the Cowboys as they trailed throughout the first half against the New York Giants on Monday night but ultimately ended with more points on the scoreboard. Was it a stressful experience for fans watching all over the world? Sure, but a lot of good things happened in the second half (specifically the fourth quarter).

Whenever you talk about the Cowboys these days, if you bring up some of the successes that they’ve had (which obviously don’t include winning a Super Bowl) you’re typically met with the same response: “This is the Dallas Cowboys. The standard is higher!”

While that line certainly has Any Given Sunday vibes it both holds some truth and doesn’t acknowledge what is happening right in front of us. The Cowboys won on Monday night and at the end of the day it was a win on the road against a division rival. Those aren’t easy.

Dallas is undefeated in division contests since acquiring Amari Cooper (they’re 8-0) but despite the team’s win coming out of their bye week, Cowboys fans actually lost confidence in their team. Seriously.

Following the team’s Week 7 win at home against the Philadelphia Eagles, Cowboys fans were at 64% confidence per SB Nation’s FanPulse tool, the highest they’d been since Week 5. Cowboys fans dipped after a game in which their team put up over 400 total yards, scored 37 points, and won by double digits. Of course some of that happened near the end of the game which muddied the numbers, but Cowboys fans currently sit at 60% confidence.

What about the rest of the NFC East?

The path of least resistance to the playoffs for the Cowboys undoubtedly involves winning their division. It’s not much of a total competition as the aforementioned New York Giants and Washington Redskins have made it very difficult on themselves to be good, this is all going to come down to the Cowboys and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Eagles fans have a 46% level of confidence in their team, Giants have a 37% level, and Redskins fans sit at 1% across all of the SB Nation sites that cover those teams. For what it’s worth, this week’s opponent (the Minnesota Vikings) has a 39% level of confidence so nobody is feeling too great!

Misery loves company, right?
