Quite a debut for Mr. Koo.
The Atlanta Falcons came off of a bye week and proceeded to impose their will on the Saints in New Orleans, winning every facet of that football game. It goes to show you just how unpredictable things can get when these rivals square off.
Atlanta is still in a rough spot with a 2-7 record, but any win against the Saints should always be celebrated, no matter the circumstances. The offense moved the ball and controlled the clock, the defense was dominant, and even special teams were a force.
There is a lot of great content available here at the Falcoholic, and I encourage you to check it out if you want some in-depth analysis. This article will look at things strictly from a fantasy football perspective (that means looking at nothing other than purely statistics). Here are Atlanta’s fantasy stud and fantasy dud from Week 10’s victory against the New Orleans Saints.
Fantasy Stud/Dud 2019 History:
Past Studs: Austin Hooper (3), Julio Jones (2), Matt Ryan (2), Calvin Ridley (1)
Past Duds: Calvin Ridley (2), Devonta Freeman (1), Mohamed Sanu (1), Julio Jones (1), Mohamed Sanu (1), Matt Ryan (1), Matt Bryant (1)
Fantasy Stud - Younghoe Koo
Stat Line - 2 PAT, 4-4 FGs: 3-3 30-39, 1-1 40-49: 14.00 standard league/PPR points
Have yourself a debut, Younghoe Koo! The Georgia Southern alum was given plenty of opportunities in this one, as Atlanta’s offense scored two touchdowns and stalled out in field goal range four times, and he nailed every single kick.
The coaching staff went into this one not planning on burdening Koo with long field goal attempts, and they had to be pleased when his first two field goal opportunities came from inside 40 yards. Having developed some confidence from converting three kicks (two FGs and one PAT) from inside 40, Koo converted a career-long 48-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
The former member of the AAF’s Atlanta Legends racked up 14 fantasy points, which tied him with Harrison Butker for most among all kickers this week. He will be a decent option moving forward for kicker-needy fantasy players.
The Falcons defense also received consideration in this part of the column, but even while recording a season-high six sacks the still only had 10 fantasy points.
Dud
Calvin Ridley - 3 catches, 28 receiving yards, 1 carry, 19 rushing yards: 4.7 standard league points; 7.7 PPR points
While this was a wonderful team performance, Calvin Ridley couldn’t get in on the fun very much (from a stat sheet perspective). Matt Ryan only had 182 passing yards to spread out, and Julio Jones racked up 79 of those, leaving a sparse amount left over for everyone else.
Ridley absolutely eviscerated the Saints in two meetings last year, and fantasy owners were hoping for more of the same this time around. Unfortunately, he was the victim of a spread out passing attack, and an offensive philosophy which was predicated on running the ball and controlling clock.
Atlanta’s defense won’t continue playing well enough to allow the Falcons to keep running the ball down the opponents’ throat. Ridley is a volatile option given his low floor, but he’ll definitely have his explosive performances as well.
