Falcons injury updates: Austin Hooper and Devonta Freeman injuries appear to be minor

NFL: Atlanta Falcons at New Orleans Saints Chuck Cook-USA TODAY Sports

Good news on both guys, who should play again in 2019.

The big victory against the New Orleans Saints didn’t come without some bumps in the road. As is normal in the NFL, the Falcons suffered some injuries but two stood out in particular. Austin Hooper left the game with a knee injury while Devonta Freeman was unable to return in the second half with a foot injury.

Well, both players had their MRIs today and it looks like the news for both guys is good.

For Austin Hooper, it appears he has an MCL sprain.

The severity of the sprain will determine how much time Hooper misses. A grade 2 sprain could cost him 2 to 4 weeks while a grade 1 sprain could see him out for no more than a week. Given how devastating knee injuries can be, this is arguably a best case scenario for the top-tier tight end.

As for Devonta, his foot sprain appears to be on the less severe end of the spectrum, as it sounds like he will only miss about two weeks.

Before going out on Sunday, Freeman was having one of his best games of the season. With Ito Smith already out for the year, getting Freeman back could be critical for the depth at running back. At minimum, Freeman is one of our best pass blocking backs, which is incredibly important for keeping Matt Ryan upright.
