NFL suspends former Bengals DB Josh Shaw for all of 2020

Shaw played in Cincinnati from 2015-2017.

Former Cincinnati Bengals defensive back Josh Shaw has been suspended for the entirety of the 2020 season. This comes from NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero who noted that Shaw has been suspended “for betting on NFL games.”

This is not a good look for Shaw who played for both Kansas City and Tampa Bay last season. Put on the injured reserve earlier this season, Shaw has yet to make an appearance on the field in 2019.

“The continued success of the NFL depends directly on each of us doing everything necessary to safeguard the integrity of the game and the reputations of all who participate in the league. At the core of this responsibility is the longstanding principle that betting on NFL games, or on any element of a game, puts at risk the integrity of the game, damages public confidence in the NFL, and is forbidden under all circumstances. If you work in the NFL in any capacity, you may not bet on NFL football,” NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said on the situation.

Shaw was part of the Cincinnati Bengals for three seasons and started 12 of the 16 games in the 2016 season. That said, Shaw cannot petition for reinstated until February 15, 2021. Given that Shaw has started one game in the past three seasons, you can almost bet this suspension will end his career.

The fourth-round draft pick for the Bengals in 2015, Shaw’s career certainly hasn’t lived up to the lofty expectations that he had on his shoulders when he first entered the Queen City.

The cornerback will be at least 29 the next time he plays in the NFL, if he plays in the NFL again.
