Tweetcap Week 9: Cowboys shake rusty start, defeat Giants 37-18 on MNF

NFL: Dallas Cowboys at New York Giants Brad Penner-USA TODAY Sports

The Cowboys swept the Giants for the second-straight season, win 37-18 on Monday Night Football

The Cowboys had a lot of bye-week rust to knock off early but they eventually blew out the Giants. It’s the third consecutive year that the Cowboys swept the Giants as they move to 4-0 in the division. Let’s relive the game through the Twitter lens from Monday Night’s game.

FIRST QUARTER

On the kickoff, the Cowboys avoided near disaster when Tony Pollard muffed it but thankfully didn’t lose control of the possession.

Dallas’ first possession was short-lived, though, right off the bat on first down Dak Prescott throws an interception when he doesn’t recognize Antoine Bethea lurking real close.

Just like that the Giants get a red zone opportunity but the Cowboys hold the Giants to three points. It’s 3-0 Giants.

The Cowboys, back on the offensive, start putting together a nice drive and get their first opportunity in the red zone. On 2nd & 15, at NYG-17, Dak Prescott finds Randall Cobb for the touchdown... except for a flag.

Randall Cobb has been snake bit, every time he makes a big play, it gets wiped out. Cowboys settle for the field goal to tie it up at three.

The next Giants possession goes awry as Daniel Jones gets his first meeting with DeMarcus Lawrence, brutal sack for Tank.

The Cowboys defense forces the three-and-out but the Cowboys offense stalls out at the NYG-36. To compound the issue, Brett Maher’s 54-yard attempt is wide-left and no good.

SECOND QUARTER

On the next drive, the Giants get the short field and make the most of it. On 3rd & 14, Golden Tate makes a heck of a catch to set up shop at the DAL-1.

Seconds later, Daniel Jones finds a wide-open Cody Latimer for the easy touchdown and suddenly the Cowboys are getting that sinking feeling. New York missed the PAT, so the score is 9-3.

Needing points, the Cowboys work their way to the NYG-42 before Michael Gallup drops a pass and then Randall Cobb let’s this happen:

Just as we thought Halloween was in the rear-view mirror, we get a black cat sighting which is considered a bad omen.

The Giants get another red zone opportunity with under 4:00 minutes in the half but Dallas holds them to three. With 2:53 left, the Cowboys are down 12-3.

Dak Prescott and the offense finally awaken thanks to the Giant-killer himself, Blake Jarwin, for a 42-yard touchdown!

Janoris Jenkins wanted no smoke from Blake Jarwin and makes a pitiful effort to tackle him.

Instead of running the clock out, the Giants decide to keep throwing the football, what were they thinking here, exactly?

With time left and timeouts, Xavier Woods picks off Daniel Jones for daring the secondary with dumb play-calling:

Brett Maher drills a 52-yarder as time expires and suddenly the Cowboys have the lead going into the half. So much for black cats and bad omens, not for the Cowboys, at least.

THIRD QUARTER

The Giants and Cowboys would trade punts to begin the second-half. With under 8:00 minutes left in the third quarter, Daniel Jones is in the giving mood once again...

Unfortunately, Dallas could only come away with three points to extend their lead to 16-12.

The Giants end up getting 41 yards on the kick-return by Cody Latimer and that’s when the scuffling starts happening. Somehow the officials started losing control of the game and were very generous to Giants’ OG Will Hernandez...

Still have no idea why the Cowboys ended up with all the dirty laundry in these skirmishes, seems like Hernandez was tired of getting beat up by Robert Quinn.

The Giants added another field goal, cutting the deficit to one point but there’s another failed red zone opportunity for the G-Men.

FOURTH QUARTER

The Cowboys quickly drive the ball down the field to the NYG-15, that’s when Dak Prescott makes a great throw. Michael Gallup then makes the play of the game:

Another angle of this incredible play:

Cowboys lead 23-15 but the Giants weren’t ready to lay down yet. Does Saquon Barkley always have to break a big one against the Cowboys?

A few plays later, Pat Shurmur challenges that Chidobe Awuzie should have been given a DPI call but that decision proved unsuccessful. Cowboys turn away the Giants in the red zone again, despite Barkley’s great play. Cowboys 23, Giants 18.

After more officiating nonsense, the Cowboys face 3rd & 12 at the NYG-45 but Dak Prescott goes for the Giants’ throats. Eat your heart out, Dan Orlovsky...

It’s a 45-yard dagger to the New York Giants. Cowboys lead 30-18 with eight minutes to play.

On the Giants’ final drive, Michael Bennett, the newcomer to the ‘Hot Boyz’ makes his presence known:

The officials throw two flags on the Cowboys though and keep New York’s awful offense on the field for more punishment. Maliek Collins gets to Daniel Jones for a nine-yard loss on second down.

Finally, Dorance Armstrong and Jourdan Lewis team up to shut the door on this game turning “Danny Dimes” into “Danny Fumbles”. Cowboys win 37-18!

Hey Giants...

Not a bad ending after such a horrible beginning:

The Cowboys continue to spank the NFC East at a crazy rate of success:
