A first time stud and first time dud so late in the season.
The Falcons keep winning games to close out the season — the win streak is currently at three and the record after the bye week stands at 5-2. Atlanta got off to a quick 14-0 lead in this one and never let Jacksonville make it a contest after that.
Luckily, some fantasy heroes arose during championship week.
There is a lot of great content available here at the Falcoholic, and I encourage you to check it out if you want some in-depth analysis. This article will look at things strictly from a fantasy football perspective (that means looking at nothing other than purely statistics). Here are Atlanta’s fantasy stud and fantasy dud from Week 16’s victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Fantasy Stud/Dud 2019 History:
Past Studs: Austin Hooper (3), Julio Jones (3), Younghoe Koo (2), Matt Ryan (2), Calvin Ridley (2), Atlanta Falcons D/ST (1), Russell Gage (1)
Past Duds: Calvin Ridley (3), Matt Ryan (3), Austin Hooper (2) Devonta Freeman (1), Mohamed Sanu (1), Julio Jones (1), Mohamed Sanu (1), Matt Bryant (1), Brian Hill (1)
Fantasy Stud - Devonta Freeman
Stat Line - 13 carries, 53 rushing yards, 1 rushing touchdown, 9 catches, 74 receiving yards, 1 receiving touchdown: 24.70 standard league points; 33.70 PPR points
This is the first time this season that Devonta Freeman finds himself in this section of the column, as this explosion came not a moment too soon for those who trusted the Florida State alum in their championship games.
Freeman did his damage in the first quarter, scoring a 17-yard rushing touchdown on the first drive of the game and then capping off Atlanta’s second drive with an 8-yard receiving touchdown following a Jags fumble on the kickoff.
From there, Freeman racked up the touches, as his nine receptions in particular were a massive boost in PPR leagues. Saquon Barkley is the only running back who scored more points in PPR leagues.
Devonta Freeman was a league winner in Week 16.
Dud
Younghoe Koo - 3 PAT, 1-2 FGs: 1-1 20-29, 0-1 40-49: 6.00 standard league/PPR points
Kicking in a dome environment in December against a weak Jaguars team, Koo had the makings of an intelligent start this week. Things didn’t go quite as planned, however.
When the opportunities to kick field goals aren’t there, it’s imperative that the kicker is flawless on the chances he does receive. Koo missed his first FG, from 42 yards out, and that cost fantasy owners. Kicking three extra points and a FG from inside 30 weren’t going to get it done.
Koo was the 18th ranked kicker in fantasy points this week (this is before the Monday night game), and he may have lost some league championships.
