Falcons fantasy stud and dud from Week 17

Koo has delivered for fantasy teams.

The Falcons end the 2019 season on a winning streak to bring their record to 7-9, with the last victory being a nail-biter in Tampa against the Buccaneers; I have a feeling of deja vu from last year. The Falcons completed a fourth quarter comeback and won this game in overtime.

Most fantasy leagues conclude with the completion of Week 16, but some go through Week 17 as well. This article is for those 17-week leagues.

There is a lot of great content available here at the Falcoholic, and I encourage you to check it out if you want some in-depth analysis. This article will look at things strictly from a fantasy football perspective (that means looking at nothing other than purely statistics). Here are Atlanta’s fantasy stud and fantasy dud from Week 16’s victory against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Fantasy Stud/Dud 2019 History:

Past Studs: Austin Hooper (3), Julio Jones (3), Younghoe Koo (2), Matt Ryan (2), Calvin Ridley (2), Atlanta Falcons D/ST (1), Russell Gage (1), Devonta Freeman (1)

Past Duds: Calvin Ridley (3), Matt Ryan (3), Austin Hooper (2) Devonta Freeman (1), Mohamed Sanu (1), Julio Jones (1), Mohamed Sanu (1), Matt Bryant (1), Brian Hill (1), Younghoe Koo (1)

Fantasy Stud - Younghoe Koo

Stat Line - 1 PAT, 5-5 FGs: 1-1 20-29, 2-2 30-39, 2-2 40-49: 16.00 standard league/PPR points

Koo shook off last week’s dud to put up a perfect performance in the season finale — nailing all five of his field goals and the lone extra point.

Despite only playing in the second half of the season, Koo has already been named fantasy stud three times, tying Austin Hooper and Julio Jones for most on the team. Dirk Koetter’s offense has a tendency of sputtering near the red zone, and that’s resulted in plenty of opportunities for the Georgia Southern man.

If you started Koo in your championship game, he delivered for you as the top scoring kicker in Week 17. He now goes into 2020 as the favorite to win Atlanta’s starting kicker job.

Dud

Devonta Freeman - 18 carries, 58 rushing yards, 2 catches, 15 receiving yards: 7.30 standard league points; 9.30 PPR points

A 7+ point performance from Freeman isn’t actually a killer if you trusted him as your Flex this week. However, while they weren’t spectacular no other fantasy relevant Falcon did worse than that.

Freeman gets the nod for dud because he was repeatedly stuffed on most of his 20 touches. His yards per carry mark was an uninspiring 3.2, and his two receptions did little to salvage his performance in PPR leagues.

Devonta Freeman has clearly lost a step since his prime days of 2015 and 2016. His days as a Falcon may be numbered.
