Week 17 on Sunday night in Seattle will decide the NFC West crown. The 49ers scraped by with a win on Saturday night against the LA Rams to give them a shot at overtaking Seattle for the division title, 1st round bye, and homefield throughout the playoffs. Sunday’s game will put the 49ers-Seahawks rivalry right back to the top of the best NFL rivalries going.
To add a bit more intrigue to the high stakes game, Seattle brought back Marshawn Lynch into the fold to help with their depleted backfield. He last played on October 2018 with Oakland. His signing was in response to Seattle losing Rashaad Penny, Chris Carson, and CJ Prosise to season-ending injuries this month. Bringing Beast Mode should pump up their crowd even more than they would have been and brings a certain level of energy to the game. But it is unsure how much he has in the tank to actually effect this game. Either way, the 49ers will have to be ready to deal with Lynch.
The biggest difference between the 1st time these 2 teams met earlier in the year is not going to be Marshawn Lynch, but George Kittle. He was out with leg injuries during the overtime game that the 49ers lost by a field goal. Having him available for Jimmy in a hostile environment like Seattle is going to be a huge factor. When all else is not working, they can go to George to make a play and he is usually up to the task.
Jaquiski Tartt was back on the practice field on Tuesday after missing the last 3 games with a rib injury. He would help boost a secondary that has taken a step back the last few weeks after an impressive start to the season. With a depleted running game, Russell Wilson will be throwing a lot and the secondary needs to put in a performance like they were having earlier in the year. Tartt’s return should help.
