The initial prognosis for Saturday’s 8:15 p.m. ET wild-card meeting.
New Year’s Eve included a walkthrough for the New England Patriots.
And as on-field preparations for Saturday’s 8:15 p.m. ET meeting with the Tennessee Titans got underway, a full New England active roster was on hand.
But participation varied.
After nine Patriots were listed as questionable to close the regular season, seven would be listed as limited to open the postseason, including former Titans cornerback and captain Jason McCourty.
Here’s the initial injury report heading into the AFC wild-card kickoff at Gillette Stadium.
DID NOT PARTICIPATE
- Patriots: no players listed
- Titans: WR Adam Humphries (ankle), Kalif Raymond (concussion)
Shilique Calhoun closed out the regular season as a non-participant in practice due to an illness. But the defensive end and core special-teamer saw the field for New England versus the Miami Dolphins, and went without a designation on Tuesday. As did running back Sony Michel, who went to the injury report with an illness of his own last weekend.
A pair of Titans wide receivers sat out the first practice ahead of the wild-card round. Humphries missed the final four games of the regular season due to an ankle injury. As for Raymond, the primary kickoff returner entered concussion protocol during Tennessee’s 38-28 loss to the New Orleans Saints on Dec. 22.
LIMITED PARTICIPATION
- Patriots: WR Julian Edelman (knee/shoulder), OT Marcus Cannon (ankle), LB Ja’Whaun Bentley (knee), LB Jamie Collins (shoulder), CB Jason McCourty (groin), CB Jonathan Jones (groin), S Terrence Brooks (groin)
- Titans: WR Cody Hollister (ankle), LB Daren Bates (shoulder)
A total of three Patriots defensive backs remain limited due to groin injuries, with McCourty’s leaving him sidelined for all but eight snaps over the past six contests. Jones returned to the lineup midway through the finale versus Miami, while Brooks would be added to New England’s report last Friday and ultimately went to the inactives.
On Tennessee’s side of the limited Tuesday were Hollister and Bates due to ankle and shoulder injuries, respectively. Hollister, a member of the Patriots’ 2017 undrafted class, has checked into five games for the Titans since his November promotion from the practice squad.
FULL PARTICIPATION
- Patriots: no players listed
- Titans: Adoree’ Jackson (foot)
No Patriots graduated from limited to full participation on the first injury report of the postseason.
As for the Titans, Jackson became a full-go. The starting cornerback, drafted No. 18 overall out of USC in 2017, last played on Dec. 1 due to a foot injury.
