Three free agents who could be a good fit with the Dallas Cowboys.
Another year and another offseason spent advocating that the Cowboys should sign free agent safety Adrian Phillips.
Long-time readers should remember Phillips as a name frequently brought up as a potential replacement for Jeff Heath last offseason. Unfortunately, as you can tell, the Cowboys didn’t listen then, but maybe they will now with Nolan running the defense instead of Richard/Marinelli.
With Jeff Heath scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent, Phillips is the perfect replacement who won’t break the bank. On top of that, Phillips is also one of the best all-around special teamers in the NFL, as evidenced by being named a first-team All-Pro as a special teamer in 2018. Unfortunately for Phillips, a broken arm limited him to playing in just seven games in 2019, but in limited action, Phillips demonstrated the traits necessary to be a capable starter at strong safety.

5. Randall Cobb WR. Randall Cobb was brought in back in March to be an upgrade from former slot receiver Cole Beasley who signed a four-year 29 million dollar deal with the Buffalo Bills, and he was just that. As the third option behind two 1,100-yard receivers, Cobb totaled 58 receptions for 828 yards and three touchdowns.
Now, the Cowboys could easily try to find another slot receiver in the draft (which I would regardless if stays) or look for one in free agency, but when you’ve already got one of the best on your roster, why not just keep him in the building? Plus, Cobb played under new Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy in Green Bay for eight years, where he garnered his only pro bowl nod in 2014. Whether it be a one or two-year team-friendly deal, I’d have Cobb back in my receiver room in 2020.

The Cowboys all-time great was extremely disappointed in not making the Hall of Fame once again.
Pearson was surrounded by friends and family as the class was announced Wednesday morning, including his wife, two daughters and six grandchildren.
He is now the only member of the 1970s All-Decade team who has not earned enshrinement into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. One of the others was his former teammate, safety Cliff Harris, who was selected Wednesday after failing to make it as a finalist in 2004.
Pearson and Harris were texting each other during the morning, wishing each other well. "I'm totally happy for Cliff," Pearson said. "People ask me what's the hardest I've ever been hit, and it was when Cliff Harris hit me in a Thursday practice when we were getting ready to play the Washington Redskins and I'm laid out on the field in pain."
Pearson finished his career with 489 catches for 7,822 yards and 48 touchdowns. He earned the nickname "Mr. Clutch" for his plays in big games, such as the Hail Mary in the 1975 playoffs against the Minnesota Vikings.

It’s been a long, winding road for Jason Garrett and the 2020 offseason. From being talked about as a guy who may potentially remain as the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, to a guy that was technically still employed and in the building while the Cowboys began interviewing head coaching candidates. Jason Garrett’s tenure in Dallas ended in a very strange way.But with his contract officially expiring this week, Garrett has finally began his search for a coaching job in the NFL, and he may be headed to a very familiar opponent. According to multiple reports, Jason Garrett will be interviewing for the vacant offensive coordinator role in New York, with new head coach Joe Judge.

A former Cowboys coach looks like he is headed back to Dallas.
The latest reports indicate a familiar face could be returning to the Cowboys sideline. According to multiple reports, Skip Peete is expected to become the team's new running backs coach. Peete held the position from 2007-12, starting out on Wade Phillips' staff in 2007 and staying on under Jason Garrett for two more seasons.
The Cowboys' recent running backs coach, Gary Brown, has coached the position from 2013-18 but his contract expired after the 2019 season.
Peete would obviously be a new voice for Ezekiel Elliott, who is coming off his third 1,000-yard rushing season in four years. But he's no stranger to coaching talented backs. Most recently, Peete was in Los Angeles as the Rams' running back coach, working directly with Todd Gurley. In his first stint with the Cowboys, Peete coached the likes of Julius Jones, Marion Barber, Felix Jones and even DeMarco Murray for two seasons.

Should the Cowboys be using Dak Prescott’s running ability more?
Naturally, I was curious about the record this year too. I wanted to see if I was right about my suppositions once again. So, I looked. In 2019, Prescott ran five times or more in four games. The Cowboys won all four of those contests.
Adding it all up, Prescott ran five times or more 21 times over the last four years. The Cowboys won 17 of those. That’s an 80 percent win rate!
So, why don’t the Cowboys run Prescott more? I’m sure part of it is that the front office wants to keep Prescott healthy. I understand that, but I’m not suggesting running Dak 20 times a game. Just five times. Seven or eight at the most.
For comparison’s sake, over that same time period, Prescott has run the ball four or fewer times, 43 times. The Cowboys have won 23 of those games. So, when Dak hasn’t run the ball much, the Cowboys have won 53.5 percent of their games. Compared to 80.9 percent when Dak runs more.
Incidentally, it doesn’t even seem to matter much if Prescott runs well or not. I looked at two games where Prescott ran poorly. On December 10, 2018, Prescott ran six times for 13 yards against the New York Giants. They won that game.
