Philly’s OC search continues.
There was some thought that the Philadelphia Eagles might have interest in hiring John DeFilippo — recently dismissed by the Jacksonville Jaguars — as their offensive coordinator.
Nope.
Flip is reportedly headed to Chicago to be the Bears’ new quarterbacks coach. You know, because whenever you get the chance to work with Mitchell Trubisky, you just have to do it.
Flip taking a quarterbacks coach job clearly indicates he wasn’t getting much consideration for an offensive coordinator role. And that doesn’t come as a surprise considering he’s been fired from his last two OC stints.
I’m not surprised to see that Flip isn’t back in Philly. He obviously served the team well as a quarterbacks coach in 2017 but it seems like both sides were ready to move on after the Super Bowl success. I think it’s worth noting that Flip has never held the same position for more than three years in his coaching career; he’s often been on the move.

If Flip can get Trubisky playing well, he could get some offensive coordinator and/or head coach consideration in the future. Easier said than done.
It’s interesting that Flip will be working with another former Eagles quarterbacks coach in Chicago. Bill Lazor is reportedly going to be the Bears’ offensive coordinator. Perhaps the Bears try to trade for Nick Foles this offseason as a Trubisky contingency plan? We’ll see.
As for the Eagles’ ongoing offensive coordinator search, we still don’t really have a good sense of what the team is thinking. Some are getting antsy since it’s now been a week since Mike Groh was fired. I think it’s a good thing that the team is taking their time if it means they’re truly holding a wide-ranging search and considering many options.
Still, the suspense can only last for long. We all want to see who the Eagles choose.
