FINAL SCORE: Eagles lose to Seahawks as Carson Wentz gets knocked out of his first playoff game, 17 to 9

Season over.

The Philadelphia Eagles’ 2019 season is over. The Eagles lost the Seattle Seahawks in the wild card round on Sunday evening. Final score: 17 to 9. That’s the same score the Eagles lost to the Seahawks by back in Week 12.

Carson Wentz got knocked out of the game with a concussion in the first quarter due to a dirty hit from Jadeveon Clowney. 40-year-old backup quarterback Josh McCown did his best but it wasn’t enough.

Read on for a game recap and observations, I guess.

FIRST QUARTER

Coin toss: Eagles win the toss and elect to defer. The Linc is rocking.

Seahawks 1st drive: Jalen Mills and Avonte Maddox are starting at cornerback on the outside with Cre’Von LeBlanc in the slot. Travis Homer is stripped by Fletcher Cox but the rookie running back falls on it to bring up 3rd-and-3. Very lucky. Russell Wilson’s third down pass is ... incomplete. Broken up by Cre’Von LeBlanc. Who else but STRAP?! Seahawks punt. Great start by the defense.

Eagles 1st drive: The Eagles take over at their own 22-yard line. Carson Wentz’s pitch for Miles Sanders is off target and fumbled and that brings up 3rd-and-8 after Wentz throws the ball away. Wentz’s third down pass to a covered Greg Ward is high and out of bounds. Three-and-out.

Seahawks 2nd drive: The Seahawks start at their own 46-yard line after Craig James tackles the Seahawks punt returner that signaled for a fair catch. Dumb mistake leads to a free 15 yards. Wilson runs for 22 yards with a ton of wide open field ahead of him. Just no one there. Homer takes a carry into the red zone. Seahawks get to 3rd-and-9 at the 18-yard line. Wilson’s third down is ... incomplete. Cox with the pressure. Seahawks settle for a short field goal attempt ... and it’s blocked! Vinny Curry comes up big to take points off the board. The veteran defensive end has played well down the stretch.

Eagles 2nd drive: Eagles take over at their own 25-yard line. Wentz is sacked on a screen play that’s blown up. Sanders runs to bring up 3rd-and-7. On third down, Wentz hits JJ Arcega-Whiteside right near the marker but Zach Ertz draws a defensive holding for a first down anyway. Eagles get to 3rd-and-10 and Wentz completes to Boston Scott, who runs out of bounds short of the sticks. Another punt.

Seahawks 3rd drive: Seahawks take over at their own 24-yard line. Seahawks get to 3rd-and-2 and pick up the first down on a Wilson throw to Tyler Lockett. Seahawks get to 3rd-and-11 and Wilson scrambles and finds DK Metcalf for a first down. Turns out that Wilson guy is kinda tough to defend. Brandon Graham is hurt. Oh, great, the injuries are back. Meanwhile, Carson Wentz is walking back to the locker room. Lol. You gotta be kidding. Wilson’s pass on 3rd-and-3 is tipped away and incomplete. Seahawks set up the 49-yard fild goal attempt and ... it’s good. EAGLES 0, SEAHAWKS 3.

Eagles 3rd drive: Josh McCown is in the game and the Eagles take a timeout. Smooth start. Sanders take a carry for a 6-yard gain. A toss to Sanders goes or a first down. That’s the end of the first quarter.

SECOND QUARTER

Eagles 3rd drive (continued): Wentz is ruled questionable to return with a head injury after previously taking a cheap shot from Jadeveon Clowney. Eagles get to 3rd-and-9 and McCown throws a screen pass for a 5-yard loss. Punt.

Seahawks 4th drive: Seahawks get to 3rd-and-18 after an offensive pass interference call. Or not because the Seahawks challenge a Lockett catch along the sideline that was ruled incomplete before being overturned. So, now the Seahawks have 1st-and-10 at the Eagles’ 43-yard line. Big swing there.

The Seahawks get to 3rd-and-14 and Wilson’s pass is incomplete. But there’s a false start so it’s 3rd-and-19 now. Wilson’s pass is dropped by Marshawn Lynch. Punt.

Eagles 4th drive: Still no sign of Wentz. Boston Scott runs for a first down. Sanders breaks through for another on a 13-yard run. McCown runs to bring up 3rd-and-7. The Eagles take their second timeout of the half with 5:20 remaining. McCown throws a strike to Dallas Goedert over the middle for a first down into Seahawks territory. McCown keeps (!) on the read option and runs for the first down. The 40-year-old has some wheels! The Eagles end up having to settle for a 46-yard field goal and ... Jake Elliott makes it. Tie game. EAGLES 3, SEAHAWKS 3.

Meanwhile, bad news on Wentz!

Seahawks 5th drive: The Seahawks get to 3rd-and-4 and Metcalf is wiiiide open on a crosser for a catch-and-run for 26 yards. Seahawks get to 3rd-and-10 and Wilson hits another crosser that goes for 38 yards. Ugh. David Moore was able to break out of LeBlanc’s shoestring tackle attempt to find a bunch of wide open field ahead of him. The Seahawks have 1st-and-goal from the 5-yard line. Wilson’s first down pass is incomplete. The Seahawks commit a false start and now it’s 2nd-and-goal from the 10-yard line. Wilson’s second down pass is broken but there’s a flag for roughing the passer on Derek Barnett. So, that’s a penalty but knocking Wentz out of the game with helmet-to-helmet hit from behind isn’t. Cool stuff! Lynch takes a carry for a Seahawks touchdown. Insurmountable lead? EAGLES 3, SEAHAWKS 10.

Eagles 5th drive: Eagles start out with just a minute remaining in the half and one timeout to work with. Jason Peters commits his weekly false start penalty. McCown is shoved to the ground after throwing the ball away and there’s no call. Awesome! McCown is sacked and that’s the half. Sanders is also hurt again because why not.

THIRD QUARTER

Eagles 6th drive: Eagles start at their own 25-yard line after the touchback. McCown still in the game. He hits Ertz on a post for a gain into Seahawks territory. Meanwhile, Wentz is officially ruled OUT. Gonna have to win another playoff game with a backup quarterback. McCown airs it out to Greg Ward and there are THREE flags throw for defensive pass interference. The Eagles are suddenly into the red zone. Scott takes a toss to the 5-yard line and the Eagles have 1st-and-goal. Delay of game penalty knocks the Eagles back to the 10-yard line. McCown completes a pass to Goedert for a 2-yard gain. McCown drops Jason Kelce’s snap and runs forward to the 6-yard line. On 3rd-and-goal, McCown scrambles left and gets violently tackled for a sack. Eagles have to settle for a 26-yard Elliott field goal. That delay of game penalty proved costly. EAGLES 6, SEAHAWKS 10.

Seahawks 6th drive: Seahawks start at their own 19-yard line after a good tackle from Craig James. Brandon Graham is back in the game. The Seahawks get to 3rd-and-1 and crowd noise forces Seattle to take their first timeout. Wilson rolls out on third down and flips the ball to a wide open Lynch. Wilson is just impossible to guard, man. Wilson drops back and throws deep to Metcalf, who catches the ball and falls down but then gets up again and reaches across the plane for the score. Welp. Maddox beat ... twice ... on the play. The Linc is very quiet. EAGLES 6, SEAHAWKS 17.

Eagles 7th drive: Eagles drive into the red zone with a catch-and-run by Scott and a Sanders run. The Eagles hand off to Scott on 3rd-and-3 and it’s a 3-yard loss. Not Doug Pederson’s best play call! Eagles settle for the 38-yard field goal and Elliott makes it. The game now has the same score as when these two teams last played. EAGLES 9, SEAHAWKS 17.

Seahawks 7th drive: Curry pressures Wilson into an incompletion down the field. Seahawks commit a false start. Homer is stopped for no gain to bring up 3rd-and-15. Can the Eagles actually get a stop? Nope. Nigel Bradham misses badly on a chance to tackle Wilson short of the marker. Terrible.

FOURTH QUARTER

Seahawks 7th drive (continued): The Seahawks get to 3rd-and-10. Can the Eagles get a stop THIS time? Nope. Wilson has all day to throw before hitting a wide open target in the middle of the field. Seahawks get to 3rd-and-8. STOP HERE?! Yes! Jenkins comes on a blitz and pushes Wilson to the ground for a 7-yard loss. First sack of the day by the defense. Big stop.

Eagles 8th drive: Sanders takes a carry for 18 yards. Shelton Gibson comes into the game (!) and runs deep and McCown is looking for him ... but settles for a wide open first down over the middle instead. Helps to have someone who can actually stretch the field out there, go figure! McCown steps up and flips a ball to Sanders, who jukes a defender and brings up 2nd-and-1. Sanders is kinda good. McCown sneaks forward for the first down. The Eagles are to the Seahawks’ 30-yard line. McCown ducks under a sack in Wentz fashion (!) before then getting taken down from behind. That’s too bad, woulda been an awesome play. Eagles set back to 3rd-and-11 and Ertz is flagged for a false start. Ouch. On 3rd-and-16, McCown’s pass to Goedert is complete to bring up 4th-and-3. On fourth down, Sanders drops the throw that would’ve been good for a first down. Worst time for a rookie mistake. Not the best throw but definitely still catchable. Liked the call to go for it, just didn’t execute on a play that was there to be made.

Seahawks 8th drive: Seahawks get to 3rd-and-12. Wilson throws #ShortOfTheSticks and the Seahawks have to punt.

Eagles 9th drive: Eagles take over at their own 31-yard line with 4:56 left in the game and three timeouts to work with. McCown has Ertz over the middle but throws high and behind him. McCown hits Goedert for a first down. McCown takes a shot down the field for Gibson ... and it’s defensive pass interference for a 39-yard gain. Turns out having a deep threat kinda matters! Eagles get to 4th-and-7 from 10-yard line with 2:00 left in the game. On fourth down, McCown is sacked. Just my opinion but he should’ve tried to throw the ball instead. Give the team a chance.

Seahawks 9th drive: The Seahawks take over at their own 11-yard line with 1:56 in the game. The Eagles still have all three timeouts. The Seahawks get to 3rd-and-10 and Wilson airs it out to Metcalf, who burns Marcus Epps for a chunk gain. Season over. Seahawks kneel to end the game.

FINAL SCORE: 17 to 9, Eagles LOSE
