It was a case of “second verse, same as the first” in the final NFL Wild Card weekend game, as the Seattle Seahawks once again beat the Philadelphia Eagles by a score of 17-9, only this time Philly did not get a touchdown.
Russell Wilson threw for 325 yards on 18/30 passing, DK Metcalf had a phenomenal playoff debut with 7 catches for 160 yards and a touchdown, Marshawn Lynch got into the end zone on an otherwise ineffective day, while the defense racked up seven sacks. The unfortunate moment of the game occurred early in the opening quarter, when a bad hit by Jadeveon Clowney went unpenalized as his helmet hit the back of Carson Wentz’s helmet, and Wentz missed the remainder of his first playoff start with a head injury.
Seattle is off to the NFC Divisional Round against the Packers.
1st Half
The Seahawks got the ball first and went three-and-out. Travis Homer fumbling his first carry and Tyler Lockett dropping a 3rd and 4 conversion led to an early punt. Philadelphia responded with a three-and-out that included a fumble by Carson Wentz after a pitch back to Miles Sanders went awry. Seattle got great field position near midfield after David Moore was whacked on a fair caught punt return by Craig James.
Seattle almost took advantage of the good field position. Travis Homer and Russell Wilson gained chunk yards on the ground, but Jason Myers’ 35-yard field goal would get blocked by Philadelphia’s Vinny Curry to keep the game scoreless.
The Seahawks got on the board first with a Myers 49-yard field goal. Russell’s third down throw on the run to DK Metcalf gained 24 yards and helped spur Seattle to the game’s first points. It would’ve been cooler if this offsides was called on 3rd and 3.

Carson Wentz was concussed on this hit by Jadeveon Clowney, with the Eagles ruling him questionable and then later out for the game. Josh McCown took over, making an undermanned Eagles offense that much more shorthanded.

Despite Seattle’s statistical dominance and Tyler Lockett’s brilliance, the Seahawks and their costly penalties were drive-killers. A DJ Fluker hold and a delay of game led to another punt early in the 2nd quarter. Philadelphia got a quality drive going, with Josh McCown leading a 13-play, 64-yard drive ending in a Jake Elliott tying field goal. 3-3.

The Seahawks got into the end zone on a 9-play, 82-yard drive that featured an incredible scramble drill throw from Russell Wilson and a catch-and-run by David Moore for 38 yards. A roughing the passer call gave Seattle a new set of downs inside the 5, and Marshawn Lynch activated BEAST MODE on the stroke of halftime. 10-3 Seahawks.

2nd Half
Philadelphia came out strongly in the 2nd half. A big throw to Zach Ertz, a PI on Tre Flowers, and 15-yard run by Boston Scott set up the Eagles in a goal-to-go situation. A delay of game penalty set Josh McCown and company back five yards and that proved costly. Jake Elliott made a field goal to cut into the deficit. 10-6 Seahawks.
The Seahawks struck back in a big way. Marshawn Lynch converted on 3rd and 1 off an 18-yard play-action catch-and-run. Two plays later, Russ hooked up with DK Metcalf up top for a 53-yard touchdown. 17-6 Seahawks.

Back came McCown and the Eagles on an 11-play, 56-yard drive that saw Josh get out of a 2nd and 16 jam with a throw to Boston Scott following a fumbled snap. Scott turned that into a 20+ yard gain, but they would be held to a field goal once more. 17-9 Seahawks.
Seattle had a good drive going into Eagles territory, with Wilson converting through the air and with his legs on multiple 3rd and longs, but he did get sacked on 3rd and 9 early in the 4th quarter. His first sack taken all game resulted in a punt back to the Eagles, who had a chance to tie the game. McCown again got Philadelphia to the Seattle 24, where they went for it on 4th and 4. Miles Sanders was open but the pass was low and he dropped it, otherwise he would’ve had the first down.
The Seahawks went three-and-out instead of push for the game-ending points. Philadelphia got the ball back with under five minutes left and at their own 31. A pass interference on Tre Flowers during the drive set the Eagles up in the red zone. Rasheem Green got a sack on McCown, and the defense eventually forced them into 4th and 7 at the Seahawks 10. McCown got sacked by Jadeveon Clowney to force another turnover on downs with just 1:56 left. Philly still had all three timeouts so not game over just yet.
Toss play to Homer gained nothing, leading to one timeout. Lynch got stuffed on 2nd and 10, prompting another timeout. 3rd and 10 for the game... DK METCALF WITH ANOTHER HUGE CATCH! 36 yards and GAME OVER. 17-9 Seahawks.
Seahawks injury report
DE Ezekiel Ansah hurt his neck in the 2nd quarter and did not return.
