Steve Hutchinson named Hall of Fame finalist for third straight year

Can he finally break through this year?

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2020 will be named on Super Bowl weekend, and hopefully one of the best offensive lineman to wear Minnesota Vikings purple in recent years will be among those that hears his name called.

For the third consecutive year, former Vikings’ lineman Steve Hutchinson is among the fifteen Modern Era finalists for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.

Hutchinson spent the early part of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, who made him the 17th overall pick in the 2001 NFL Draft. He came to Minnesota after signing the infamous “Poison Pill” offer sheet, a sheet that Vikings management structured in such a way to make it nearly impossible for the Seahawks to match.

Hutchinson played for the Vikings from 2006 to 2011, and was named a First-Team All-Pro in 2007, 2008, and 2009 (and was named to the Second Team in 2006). He blocked for a 1,000-yard rusher in five of the six years he was a Viking, and was one of the cornerstones of the very good offensive line that got the Vikings to the NFC Championship Game in 2009.

Of the 15 players named as finalists, Hutchinson is the only one with significant ties to the Vikings. If he is selected, he will be enshrined in Canton during the week of August 6th-9th.

Here’s hoping that the third time is the charm for Steve Hutchinson and that he is enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a part of the Class of 2020!
