Former Chargers safety Eric Weddle “would retire as a Raven” over Chargers, Rams

NFL: AFC Wild Card-Los Angeles Chargers at Baltimore Ravens Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Well that was a direct shot to the nether-regions.

In a recent interview with The Athletic’s Jeff Zrebiec, the nine-year Chargers defender gave a tentative answer when he was asked which organization he would decide to officially retire with.

“As of right now, I would retire as a Raven before those other two teams.”

The veteran of three teams would go on to express some of the negative feelings still surrounding his departure with the Chargers over four years ago, showing no signs of any make-up in sight.

“Until there’s new management with the Chargers, I’m not going to set foot in that place. That’s been said. It’s unfortunate how it happened, but I’m a guy who is very loyal and once you burn that bridge and do the things that they did, that’s just not going to happen.”

Eric Weddle’s rocky split from the Chargers was well-documented following the 2015 season when the team finished with a paltry 4-12 record, their worst record in 12 years. There was a litany of reasons that caused Weddle to fall out of favor with the team that year, with the most notable transgression being a $10,000 fine that he was slapped with for going out of the locker room to watch his daughter during a halftime performance.

That same year was also capped off with the team barring him from flying with the rest of his teammates to the season finale.

In all honesty, I don’t think anyone can blame Weddle for the animosity that he holds close regarding this team. They did him wrong on a number of occasions and I don’t think any of us would appreciate the that type of treatment after putting nine years of blood, sweat, and tears into the team the way he did.

What do you guys think? Should Eric Weddle let bygones be bygones or is he justified in keeping his grudge against the Chargers for the foreseeable future?
