Report: Current CBA proposal would expand NFL playoffs for next season

A massive change.

The traditional 12 team NFL playoff field could be no more, according to Adam Schefter. The current CBA proposal would see the NFL will expand its playoffs to allow seven teams from each conference into the postseason, creating a 14 team field.

This would create just one bye for each conference, which would be awarded to the No. 1 seeds from each side. Per Schefter’s report, this would begin in the upcoming season.

If this system were in place last year, both the Rams and the Steelers would have been added to the playoff field.

For the Titans, it’s probably good news. Tennessee always seems to be a team in the thick of the playoff race, battling for one of the wildcard spots. This would obviously make that path easier for the Titans, who are coming off of four consecutive 9-7 seasons.

But overall, this waters down what was perhaps the best playoff system in sports. 44 percent of the league will now make the postseason.

Additionally, the proposal would increase the number of regular season games from 16 to 17, while the preseason would be cut to just three games.

Schefter notes that there is now optimism that this proposal could be agreed upon as soon as next week.

What are your thoughts on these potential changes?
