There is speculation that Jerry Jones is looking to make “a big splash” in the 2020 NFL Draft

If it’s Jerry and the Cowboys, you can always count on this type of speculation.

We are only a few months out from the 2020 NFL Draft and until it arrives speculation about the Dallas Cowboys is going to go in a number of directions. Plenty of people believe that the Cowboys are set to take one of the top safeties in the class, LSU’s Grant Delpit or Alabama’s Xavier McKinney, but what happens in free agency could change a lot.

The Cowboys are going to need to do a lot both in free agency and at the draft if they want to be where the Kansas City Chiefs are a year from now so talent is important. Things have changed a lot with the organization recently as they moved on from Jason Garrett and hired Mike McCarthy, but what other things could be coming?

Jerry Jones apparently wants to make “a big splash” at the draft

This year’s draft is being held in Las Vegas, the new home of the Raiders, and will surely have a lot of glitz and glamour. One of the more notable things happening there will include boat travel for the draftees as the fountains at the Bellagio are going to be part of where the stage is set up and what not, the crew from Ocean’s Eleven is likely very jealous.

With water literally being part of the setup Jerry Jones might be taking things to the most serious level. According to ProFootballNetwork’s Tony Pauline the Cowboys owner is looking to make “a big splash” in the selection period.

The Cowboys have a lot on their plate, considering the number of players on their roster who may hit the free-agent market.

I can tell you this – a source close to the team told me, “Jerry wants to make a big splash in the draft.” That leads me to believe Jones could look to trade up from the 17th overall pick.

Who would they move up for? I’m told they have been doing a ton of work on the Ohio State prospects. I’m sure they’d love to move up to get Chase Young, but that won’t happen. Speculatively, the other target could be cornerback Jeffrey Okudah, considering Byron Jones is likely heading out of town.

Jeffrey Okudah is regarded as the top cornerback in the draft and as the highest defensive player outside of his teammate Chase Young, maybe that is the splash Jerry wants to have happen.

It would be interesting for the Cowboys to move up so high (that’s where Okudah is going to go) to get a cornerback literally months after Morris Claiborne won a Super Bowl, but maybe that’s the destiny of it all. Outside of a move like that it’s hard to envision just what would qualify as a big enough move to justify talk like this.

Many people thought that Jerry Jones would want to steal the show when the Cowboys hosted the 2018 NFL Draft but they stood firm and selected Leighton Vander Esch, a pick that everyone knew they were going to make.
