More depth for the offensive line

Late on Thursday, the Minnesota Vikings made another move to retain some of the depth on their offensive line.

Per numerous sources, the Vikings have brought back center/guard Brett Jones on a one-year deal that is reportedly worth $910,000.

Jones, a native of Saskatchewan, spent the first couple of seasons of his professional career with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. He was named the CFL’s Most Outstanding Rookie in 2013 and the league’s Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman in 2014. After that, he came to the NFL, signing with the New York Giants.

After three seasons in New York, the Vikings traded a sixth-round pick to the Giants to acquire his services during the 2018 offseason. Since the Vikings acquired him, his usage has been a little bit. . .strange. He started the first three games of 2018 as Pat Elflein continued his recovery from offseason surgery, and played in 11 other games for the Vikings that year. Last season, Jones appeared in just two games, although part of that can be chalked up to his going on injured reserve about halfway through the year.

I’m not sure what sort of plans the Vikings have for Jones this season, but it is nice to know that the Vikings have kept him around with the depth and versatility he adds to the offensive line. . .when he actually gets on the field, that is.
