Cowboys free agent news: Dallas bringing back linebacker Justin March

NFL: Preseason-Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco 49ers Kyle Terada-USA TODAY Sports

More linebacker depth for the Cowboys, and special teams work.

The NFL’s new league year officially began on Wednesday, and considering that the legal tampering window opened on Monday for free agency, it’s been a busy week. As far as the Dallas Cowboys are concerned, they have been far more prioritized on keeping their own as opposed to bringing in new players. The Cowboys have retained a lot of people on both sides of the ball, but Thursday was without question the linebacker day.

The Cowboys have what should be one of the league’s best linebacking groups overall as it is headlined by Leighton Vander Esch and Jaylon Smith. With Sean Lee as a reserve, that’s a solid core. They brought back depth piece Joe Thomas, and now they also brought back another linebacker.

The Cowboys are bringing back linebacker Justin March

As you can see, the news of Justin March’s return to the Cowboys was broken by Justin March himself with him having some fun on social media with fellow returnee Joe Thomas.

These are the types of players that can make or break rosters, they are the depth that so much depends on. March also is one of the core pieces of the Cowboys special teams unit. Last year he was third for snaps on special teams, playing on 62% of all special teams snaps.

Justin March has a lot of versatility just like Joe Thomas so having him around can only keep the machine going. It’s great to see the Cowboys locking down guys they believe in.

Welcome back, Justin.
