Karl Joseph leaves Raiders in free agency

Former first-round pick goes to Cleveland

After adding eight players in free agency, the Raiders finally lost their first player, but he wasn’t going to be a big part of the future in Las Vegas.

Joseph was one of the Raiders’ best free agents in a weak class. Joseph was the No. 14 overall draft pick in 2016, taken by former general manager Reggie McKenzie and former coach Jack Del Rio.

Joseph was a hard-hitting safety from West Virginia. Still, he was considered a bit of an overdraft because he came into the league with a knee injury. Injuries bothered Joseph with the Raiders. He missed 15 games due to injury in four seasons with the Raiders.

He was playing decently last season when he was lost for the season with seven games remaining.

In the end, Joseph never got into a groove with the Raiders. He signed a one-year deal with the Browns, so, clearly, the Raiders weren’t that interested in bringing back Joseph. They added Jeff Heath from Dallas in free agency and could look at the position in the draft.
