We joined the Detroit Lions Breakdown Podcast to preview the team’s offseason.
With free agency now less than two weeks away, it’s time to take a good look at the Detroit Lions’ roster. By now we’ve got a pretty good handle of what the Lions’ needs are, but there are still important decisions (like what to do with Darius Slay) that could significantly alter Detroit’s plans.
But assessing needs in only half the battle. The Lions also need to figure out the best way to address those needs, whether it be by free agency, the NFL Draft or even by a trade.
So this week, I joined my good friend Erik Schlitt on the Detroit Lions Breakdown Podcast to assess the Lions’ current roster and go over ways to fix their biggest needs. We literally go position-by-position and discuss our favorite targets both in free agency and the NFL Draft to fill where we believe the Lions have the most important holes on the roster.
- Isaiah Simmons has been rising many draft boards, but Jeff Risdon of Lions Wire warns that the Clemson hybrid linebacker may not be a wise choice for the Lions.
- PFF’s Mike Renner spoke with Tori Petry about trading down options in the draft, and some Day 2 prospects he’d see if in Detroit:
- It’s starting to look like the Lions will be in the market for a punter. Mike O’Hara of DetroitLions.com makes the case for Texas A&M’s Braden Mann, who played for Matt Patricia at the Senior Bowl.
- There’s a new CBA proposal out for a vote. A few Lions (and former Lions) players weighed in on what they think:

Make sure you read through the entire document and ask any questions you may have before you vote! Don’t vote YES or NO because someone else told you to. Make an educated and informed decision that is your OWN. https://t.co/Lv3Nqw3JNM
