As the NBA deals with the rise in positive COVID-19 tests among players and personnel, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton became the first person in the NFL to test positive for the virus. Following the news, NFL commissioner Roger Goodell released a statement regarding Payton’s health and the importance of everyone staying safe and protecting themselves from the coronavirus. While the NFL opted to move forward with the offseason and the 2020 NFL Draft as scheduled, the league is taking measures to ensure the safety of all personnel and fans. The NFL postponed all offseason team activities and informed clubs not to conduct any visits with players nor to bring them to the facilities to undergo a physical. The league also decided to make the 2020 NFL Draft a television-only event and could take further measures by conducting the draft through a conference call.
