The Kansas City Chiefs won their first Super Bowl in 50 years thanks to their core group of young stars. No 2019 NFL team had a lower salary than the Chiefs, at just under $167 million. In the Super Bowl, they beat the top-spending San Francisco 49ers, who had a $221.7 million payroll. Patrick Mahomes, the 2018 NFL MVP, was still on his rookie contract, adding less than $5 million to Kansas City’s salary cap expenditure. Receivers Mecole Hardman and Tyreek Hill both made the Pro Bowl – Hardman was on a rookie deal that paid him just under $1 million, and Hill just signed a back loaded extension that paid him just over $2 million for 2019. All-Pro safety Tyrann Mathieu’s contract was also back loaded, so his 2019 salary on the books was just under $6 million. Pro Bowl defensive end Chris Jones was in the final year of his rookie deal that paid him just under $2 million. He will earn over $16 million in 2020.

Kansas City Chiefs: WR Jonathan Baldwin
Draft Status: 2011, No. 26 Overall
Among the Kansas City Chiefs’ first-rounders in the 2010s, Jonathan Baldwin had the shortest tenure. He only spent two seasons with the club, logging 44 receptions for 607 yards and two touchdowns, with a 41.4 percent catch rate.
Baldwin didn’t play with a high-end group of quarterbacks. Matt Cassel, Kyle Orton, Tyler Palko and Brady Quinn commanded the huddle during the wide receiver’s time with the team in 2011 and 2012.
Yet, during the 2013 offseason, the Chiefs traded Baldwin to the San Francisco 49ers for wideout A.J. Jenkins, who also needed a change of scenery to shed the bust label.
Baldwin caught three passes for 28 yards in seven outings with the 49ers. San Francisco waived him in August 2014. The Detroit Lions picked him up but released him because he failed a physical. The wide receiver didn’t resurface.
Baldwin’s short run with the Chiefs and brief NFL career separate him from Kansas City’s other first-rounders since 2010, which is a stellar group to begin with.

It wasn’t until 1984 that another NFL kicker even converted from 60 yards.
Now, Dempsey has been eclipsed by the Broncos’ Matt Prater in 2013 (64 yards) and thrice tied by others.
Still, that kick all those decades ago lives on, fluttering through the Tulane Stadium air, broadcaster Al Wester’s call carrying it along.
”Dempsey kicks,” Wester bellowed. “It’s on the way ... it is ... good! It’s good! It’s good! The Saints have won! The Saints have won! The Saints have won! The stadium is wild.
